Position Summary
Johnson County Hospital and Family Medical Center prioritize customer service, compassion, and kindness in every patient interaction. The Patient Access Registrar plays a key role in delivering an exceptional patient experience by courteously managing incoming calls, accurately collecting, and verifying patient demographic information, and ensuring insurance details are complete and up to date.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Creates a positive impression for each patient, family member, visitor, or staff while registering, routing or escorting patients, family, or visitors.
· Accurately gathers necessary demographic and insurance information for registration on all patients.
· Performs courteous and professional telephone skills and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain rapport with patients, physicians, nursing, and all other staff, promoting excellent customer service in every interaction.
· Conducts business according to JCHC policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives and assures compliance with federal and state financial laws, rules, regulations, and requirements, as well as professional and industry best practices.
· Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Regulations, as set forth in the adopted JCHC HIPAA policies and procedures, as well as department-specific policies and procedures regarding disclosure and use of Protected Health Information (PHI).
· Completes consent forms, Patient Rights forms, and other documentation as needed.
· Obtains signatures on the appropriate forms and will respond to all questions in a professional, non-judgmental manner.
· Scheduling appointments accurately, sending detailed messages to nursing staff and other hospital/clinic staff.
· Represents the organization positively within the community.
· Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing in a dynamic, fast paced work environment.
Education and Experience
· High school graduate or equivalent - required
· Minimum of six months’ customer service experience - required
· Keyboarding, office procedure classes, and/or experience - preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of Insurance - preferred
· Ability to work any day of the week, including holidays and possibly some evenings, to accommodate customer service needs
· Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
· Problem solving skills to resolve patient concerns or registration issues
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
· Work independently or as part of a team
· Attention to detail
