Position Title: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) / Level I ProviderReports To: Clinical Director/ Manager
Position Summary
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) serves as a Level I provider and clinical leader, overseeing the development, implementation, and supervision of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. This role ensures all services comply with the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) EIDBI benefit requirements, the Minnesota Board of Psychology licensure standards, and the BACB Ethics Code. The BCBA is responsible for conducting assessments, developing Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs), supervising clinical staff, and collaborating with families and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, medically necessary care.
Key Regulatory Requirements (Minnesota)
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the qualifications for a DHS EIDBI Level I Provider and a Minnesota Licensed Behavior Analyst:
- Licensure: Must hold a current, active Minnesota Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) license from the Minnesota Board of Psychology. Per Minnesota Statute 148.9986, as of January 1, 2025, individuals must be licensed to practice ABA in the state .
- Certification: Must hold a current Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or BCBA-D certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) .
- DHS Enrollment: Must be eligible for enrollment as a provider with Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) .
- Background Study: Must pass a DHS background study and a criminal background check as required by the Board of Psychology (Minn. Stat. 214.075) .
- Experience/Education: Meets the DHS Level I provider requirements via a Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Psychology, Special Education, Behavior Analysis) and the required clinical experience or coursework in ASD diagnostics/treatment .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Clinical Assessment & Treatment Planning
- Develop, write, and submit DHS-compliant Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs) based on assessment results, data analysis, and client/family goals .
- Design, implement, and modify behavior reduction and skill acquisition programs based on the principles of ABA.
2. Program Oversight & Supervision
- Provide clinical supervision and direction to Level II and III providers (e.g., RBTs, Behavior Technicians) as defined by DHS and BACB standards .
- Monitor treatment fidelity and data collection accuracy through direct observation and regular file reviews .
- Train and mentor staff on treatment protocols, ethical practice, and professional development.
- Conduct in-person visits as required by DHS to fulfill supervision and oversight standards (minimum once every two months unless otherwise specified) .
3. Family & Caregiver Collaboration
- Partner with families and caregivers to establish meaningful treatment goals, review progress, and provide training and support .
- Facilitate coordinated care conferences with interdisciplinary team members (e.g., SLP, OT, schools, case managers) .
4. Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate, timely, and audit-ready clinical records including treatment plans, supervision logs, progress notes, and data summaries .
- Ensure all documentation meets DHS, EIDBI, MHCP, and HIPAA standards .
- Ensure services align with authorizations, approved frequencies, and durations .
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
- Master’s Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or related field from an accredited institution .
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification in good standing.
- Minnesota Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) (or active application status accepted; must obtain prior to start) .
Experience:
- Minimum 2,000 hours of clinical experience and/or training in the assessment or treatment of ASD or related conditions (DHS Level I requirement) .
- Experience supervising direct care staff and conducting caregiver training is highly preferred .
Skills & Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of DHS EIDBI standards, BACB ethics, and HIPAA regulations.
- Strong clinical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and program modification based on empirical evidence.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Must be able to work in center-based, community, or home settings as required.
- Ability to engage in physical activity with clients (e.g., sitting on floor, standing, bending) as needed for therapy.
Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
