About Turnout
At Turnout (turnout.co), we're transforming industries stuck in outdated solutions into seamless, modern experiences. We're a well-funded startup led by a founder with a track record of building a unicorn and multiple successful exits. Our team helps people navigate complex systems — Social Security claims, Medicare enrollment, IRS issues, Veterans claims, and more. Life is complicated; we make it less so.
About the Role
We're hiring an experienced VA Case Manager to run point on a high-volume caseload of Veterans Disability Compensation claims. This is the operational backbone of our Veterans division: you keep every case moving, complete, and on schedule from the moment intake hands it off through the rating decision and into appeals coordination.
This is not a representation role. Our VA-accredited claims agents own filing strategy, filing decisions, and representation before the VA. Your job is to make sure the file that reaches them is accurate, complete, and file-ready — and that no deadline, record request, or Veteran ever falls through the cracks. You'll also serve as a subject-matter resource for our intake team, helping raise the quality of every case entering the pipeline.
What You'll Own
- Manage a high-volume caseload across the full lifecycle — from post-intake handoff through rating decision and into appeals coordination — holding dozens of cases at different stages without losing track of any of them.
- Keep every case moving: track Intent to File (ITF) deadlines, evidence windows, C-File requests, and VA response timelines so nothing stalls or lapses.
- Build the file: gather and organize service records, medical records, C-Files (via VBMS retrieval workflows), and supporting evidence, structuring each case to a file-ready standard before it reaches an accredited agent.
- Own the Veteran relationship: serve as the primary point of contact for status updates, expectation-setting, and clear, empathetic communication throughout the process.
- Coordinate with accredited agents: manage clean hand-offs and readiness reviews — agents own strategy and filing decisions; you own that the file is complete, accurate, and on time.
- Maintain case integrity: keep our systems of record (Salesforce, VA Claim Helper) accurate and current, with a clean audit trail across every case.
- Level up the pipeline: act as a subject-matter resource for the intake team and help define and refine what a file-ready case looks like as the division scales.
Qualifications
- 2+ years managing a high volume of VA Disability Compensation cases (accredited-agent practice, law firm, claims agency, or VSO).
- Working knowledge of the VA claims lifecycle: ITF, VA Form 21-526EZ, VA Form 21-22a, Fully Developed vs. standard claims, C-File retrieval, and the rating and appeals process.
- Familiarity with VA systems (VBMS, VA.gov) and case management / CRM tools (Salesforce a plus).
- Exceptional organization and the ability to juggle a large active caseload without dropping deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication with Veterans and internal teams.
- Sound independent judgment on prioritization, triage, and escalation.
- VA accreditation is not required for this role — accredited agents own representation and filing decisions — but accreditation or eligibility to accredit is a plus.
