The Veteran Project Manager Mentor Alliance (VPMMA) is seeking experienced professionals to serve as Mentors and help guide veterans and military spouses as they transition into and advance within project management careers.
As a Mentor, you will provide career guidance, share industry knowledge, and support mentees through one-on-one mentorship, group mentorship, or on-call mentorship opportunities. Your experience and insights can make a meaningful impact on someone’s professional journey.
Position Details
Position Type: Volunteer / Pro Bono
Location: Remote
Directorate: Programs & Career Services (Mentorship)
Commitment: One-year volunteer term
Time Commitment: Approximately 5–8 hours per week (minimum 15 hours per month)
Reports To: Mentor Manager
Role Type: Individual contributor volunteer role
What You’ll Do
You will support veterans, service members, and military spouses by providing mentorship, career guidance, and professional development support to help them build confidence and succeed in project management careers.
Key Responsibilities
Mentorship & Career Development
Provide mentorship through one-on-one, group, or on-call mentoring opportunities
Offer guidance, encouragement, and actionable feedback to support mentees’ professional growth
Help mentees develop project management skills, leadership capabilities, and career readiness
Share industry knowledge, best practices, and real-world experiences
One-on-One Mentorship
Create and maintain a Mentorloop account upon invitation
Build a mentoring relationship tailored to the mentee’s goals and development needs
Meet regularly with assigned mentees and provide ongoing support throughout the mentoring relationship
Group Mentorship
Participate in group mentoring sessions as a facilitator, panelist, or supporting mentor
Share experiences and insights during discussions focused on monthly project management and career development topics
Encourage engagement and knowledge sharing among participants
On-Call Mentorship
Respond to mentee questions via email as needed
Provide guidance and recommendations related to career development, project management practices, and professional challenges
Team Collaboration & Support
Collaborate with mentorship program leaders and fellow mentors
Support VPMMA initiatives designed to strengthen mentoring outcomes and volunteer engagement
Contribute to a positive, professional, and supportive mentoring environment
Who You Are
Experienced in project management, leadership, coaching, training, or mentoring
A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
Organized, dependable, and committed to helping others succeed
Comfortable using virtual communication and collaboration tools
Passionate about supporting veterans, military spouses, and mission-driven organizations

Commit to a regular volunteer schedule and maintain active engagement with assigned mentees
Uphold the VPMMA Code of Conduct and maintain professionalism
Protect confidential member and organizational information
Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and anti-discrimination standards
Communicate proactively regarding availability and mentoring commitments
