Job Description
Title: Special Education Art Teacher
Status: Exempt
Supervisor: Head of Academics
Supervises: Teacher Assistants

Essential Duties:
1. Identify and use instructional methods and curricula that are effective in meeting the needs of exceptional individuals and document in lesson plan format
2. Create a safe and effective learning environment that contributes to the fulfillment of needs, stimulation of learning and of self-control
3. Notify the Executive Director or Head of Academic in the event of an accident, emergency, or unusual incident that could potentially affect health and/ or safety
4. Participate in the selection and use of appropriate instructional materials, equipment, and supplies needed in teaching
5. Provide accurate program data to the Head of Academics and parents regarding students in the classroom
6. Greet and supervise students at arrival and dismissal
7. Participate in parent-teacher conferences
8. Keep close track of classroom equipment and supplies
9. Maintain confidentiality of information except where information is released under specific conditions of written consent
10. Participate in and attend school functions
11. In coordination with the Head of Academics, develop Academic Student Plan (ASP) objectives annually for each student
12. Monitor progress of each student
13. On a quarterly basis, input report card information
14. Organize and take responsibility for the annual Art Night event
15. Other Duties as assigned
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Follow all school policies
2. Use professional language and actions with adult in program at all times
3. Create a substitute file that includes at a minimum: class list, daily schedule, discipline plan, and explanation of where specific materials are kept
4. Complete CPR and first aid training
5. Keep bulletin boards current
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor/Master Degree in Art
2. Certification as a Special Education Teacher in the state of Florida (Preferred)
Additional Qualifications:
1. Demonstration of excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
2. Willingness to work a flexible schedule
3. Maintain a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle according to FDOT standards
4. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others
5. CPR Certified
Pay: $55,000.00 per year
