Position Title: Senior Director, HERO (Holocaust Education Resource and Outreach) Program Type: 40 Hours per Week
Role Overview:
Voices of Hope (VOH) and its educational arm, the HERO (Holocaust Education Resource and Outreach) Program, seek a visionary and collaborative Senior Director to advance Holocaust and genocide education across Connecticut. This role provides strategic and operational leadership supporting the CT state educational mandate to ensure that every middle and high school student in the state has access to historically accurate, meaningful instruction.
The Senior Director leads the design and implementation of high-quality professional learning, curriculum development, and statewide convenings, while strengthening partnerships with educators, districts, funders, and community organizations. Working closely with staff, they support program growth, evaluate impact, and ensure alignment with Connecticut standards and best practices.
This senior role plays a critical part in promoting academic excellence while advancing awareness and education around the Holocaust and other genocides. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of public education systems, strong leadership and project management skills, and a commitment to confronting antisemitism and hate through education.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Strengthen organizational operations of the HERO Program by improving systems and evaluating program impact to inform strategic planning and the growth of major initiatives and conferences
· Foster partnerships with educators, policymakers, community organizations, and civic leaders throughout the state to expand the reach and impact of the HERO Program
· Provide resources and develop outreach strategies to engage teachers, administrators, and districts statewide
· Identify gaps in Holocaust and genocide education across Connecticut and develop systems and strategies to assess needs, expand access, and strengthen educational programming
· Expand VOH’s resources to include other genocides
· Oversee the design and implementation of professional learning programs, conferences, and curricular resources that meet state standards and current instructional practices
· Ensure curriculum materials are adaptable, inclusive, and evidence-based, reflecting both Jewish experiences and universal lessons about justice and human rights
· Supervise and mentor staff, providing clarity, accountability, and professional development
· Partner with VOH Executive Director to set and achieve financial and operational goals
· Explore grant opportunities for the HERO Program
· Maintain strong relationships with funders, education agencies, and partner organizations; oversee data collection and reporting to demonstrate impact and inform planning
· Partner with VOH and HERO staff to manage websites, publications, and digital outreach to promote the adoption of the HERO Program’s resources across Connecticut schools
· Represent VOH/HERO at public events, conferences, statewide meetings, and as chair of various committees
· Cultivate relationships with survivors and their families, educators, and the community
· Expand VOH's Speakers Bureau statewide by recruiting, training, and supporting descendants of survivors to serve as speakers in schools and throughout the community.
· Performs other duties and special assignments within the department as may be assigned by their supervisor and executive leadership
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· Advanced degree in Holocaust Studies, Jewish Studies, History, Genocide Studies, or related field required
· Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience leading complex initiatives in education or nonprofit settings, with responsibility for supervising staff and coordinating cross-functional teams, and demonstrated success in program leadership, partnership development, and project management
· Knowledge of the Jewish community, holidays, and cultural activities is not required, but is helpful when coordinating or participating in activities with the Jewish Community
· The role also requires regular travel across the state of Connecticut for school visits, meetings, programs, and events in a variety of educational and office settings
· Strong research, writing, project management, and communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly
· Strategic thinker with sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion
· Proficiency in Zoom, Microsoft Office, WordPress, Canva, and fundraising software like Network for Good
