Treadway Events & Entertainment is seeking an experienced Scenic Carpenter to join our production team for immersive haunted house builds and other live entertainment projects throughout Southwest Washington and the Portland metro area.
This is a hands-on construction role for someone who works efficiently, understands theatrical construction, and can turn creative concepts into durable, safe, and visually convincing environments. Projects may include haunted house rooms, theatrical flats, facades, platforms, temporary walls, scenic structures, props, and interactive environments.
Work is ready to begin immediately. Job sites will primarily be located in Kelso/Longview and the Portland metro area, so reliable transportation and the ability to travel between locations are required.
Responsibilities
- Construct and install theatrical flats, temporary walls, scenic structures, facades, platforms, and immersive environments
- Frame walls using wood and other appropriate materials
- Read and work from drawings, measurements, reference images, and verbal direction
- Measure, cut, assemble, reinforce, and install scenic construction elements
- Modify existing structures and scenic pieces onsite
- Work efficiently while maintaining strong craftsmanship and attention to detail
- Coordinate with scenic artists, production managers, electricians, designers, and other crew members
- Help load, unload, organize, and maintain construction materials
- Identify practical solutions when field conditions differ from plans
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site
- Complete projects on schedule and communicate immediately when challenges arise
- Assist with installation, maintenance, repairs, and eventual strike as needed
Required Qualifications
- Professional carpentry, scenic construction, theatrical production, or similar hands-on construction experience
- Experience building theatrical flats and temporary scenic walls
- Strong wood-framing and general construction skills
- Ability to work quickly without sacrificing safety or build quality
- Ability to accurately measure, cut, frame, assemble, and install
- Familiarity with common scenic construction materials and techniques
- Must have a reliable personal tool kit appropriate for scenic carpentry
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between Kelso/Longview and the Portland metro area
- Ability to follow direction while also working independently
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Dependable, punctual, and able to meet production deadlines
- Comfortable working in active construction environments and unfinished spaces
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous haunted house, theme park, escape room, film set, theater, museum, or experiential-event construction experience
- Experience constructing immersive environments, unusual wall angles, false doors, platforms, trim, and detailed scenic elements
- Experience working with pneumatics, interactive effects, props, or mechanical scenic elements
- Familiarity with basic scenic painting, distressing, foam carving, or prop fabrication
- Experience working around lighting, audio, electrical, and special-effects installations
- Ability to lead or direct additional carpenters and production assistants when needed

- A dependable vehicle
- The ability to travel to job sites throughout Southwest Washington and the Portland metro area
- A professional personal tool kit suitable for framing and scenic carpentry
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift and carry construction materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds
- Stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work on your feet for extended periods
- Safely operate saws, drills, nail guns, and other construction tools
- Work in indoor and outdoor environments that may be dusty, noisy, dark, hot, or cold
- Work occasional evenings, weekends, and extended production days as deadlines approach
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a skilled, efficient carpenter who understands that immersive entertainment construction is different from traditional residential construction. You should be comfortable building unconventional environments, adapting plans in the field, and collaborating with a creative production team.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, arrives prepared, communicates clearly, and can move a project forward without constant supervision.
Pay: From $27.50 per hour
