Join our friendly, modern companion animal hospital in Carson City! DOCs Veterinary Hospital is looking for a motivated, energetic, and dependable Entry-Level Veterinary Assistant to join our team.
No prior veterinary experience is required. We can teach you the veterinary skills you need, but we're looking for someone who brings a great attitude, strong work ethic, initiative, and a willingness to jump in and help.
This is an active, hands-on job. The right person is a go-getter who thinks quickly on their feet, can handle a busy environment, and doesn't wait around to be told what needs to be done.

Shift Schedule
Opening Shift: 7:15 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday
Closing Shift: 9:30 AM – Close
Approximately 6:30 PM Monday–Thursday and 5:30 PM Friday
10-hour shifts scheduled after initial probationary period.
Applicants must be available to rotate through all shifts.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient care
- Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
- Assist with appointments, treatments, procedures, and surgery preparation
- Help prepare treatment areas and maintain a clean, organized hospital
- Learn to assist with vaccinations, laboratory procedures, and sample collection
- Clean and disinfect kennels, treatment areas, equipment, and exam rooms
- Accurately update patient records
- Help with stocking and maintaining hospital supplies
- Communicate professionally with clients and team members
- Follow instructions carefully while also recognizing when something needs to be done and taking initiative
- Jump in to help other team members when the hospital gets busy
This Job Is Physically Active
Veterinary assisting is not a desk job. Applicants should understand that you will spend much of your shift standing, walking, bending, lifting, cleaning, and working directly with animals.
You must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Safely handle and restrain animals
- Remain on your feet for extended periods of time
- Move quickly and efficiently throughout the hospital
- Work comfortably in a fast-paced environment
- Perform repetitive cleaning and physical tasks throughout the day

You don't need to know everything when you walk through our doors—we're willing to teach. What we can't teach is work ethic, reliability, initiative, and a willingness to work hard.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be available Monday–Friday
- Must be available to rotate through opening and closing shifts
- Must be able to reliably commute to Carson City, NV, or relocate
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be comfortable standing and walking for extended periods
- Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
- Must be willing to learn new skills and follow established procedures
Preferred, But Not Required
- Experience with animals
- 4-H, FFA, or other animal-related programs
- Volunteer experience at an animal shelter or rescue
- Previous customer service experience
- Previous veterinary, kennel, grooming, boarding, or animal-care experience
