Position Summary
The Tax Clerk plays an important role in providing courteous customer service while supporting the day-to-day administrative and payment processing functions of the office. This position serves as a primary point of contact for taxpayers, assisting with inquiries, processing payments, maintaining accurate records, and performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, customer-focused, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced office environment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide courteous, professional, and responsive customer service in person and by telephone.
- Accurately receive and process payments using established office procedures.
- Respond to taxpayer inquiries and provide general account information.
- Research account information and assist with resolving customer inquiries.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain electronic and paper records.
- Process incoming and returned mail and related correspondence.
- Prepare and scan various office documents as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and taxpayer information.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient office operations.
- Perform general clerical and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous customer service, clerical, administrative, banking, or office experience preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook.
- Ability to learn software applications quickly.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to safeguard confidential information.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily an office environment.
- Frequent computer and telephone use.
- Prolonged periods of sitting with occasional standing and walking.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to perform repetitive keyboard and data entry tasks.
- May experience increased workload during peak tax seasons.
- Occasional training or limited travel may be required.
