Organization Overview: The Coller Laboratory is devoted primarily to investigating platelet physiology, thrombosis, vascular biology, and adhesion phenomena in sickle cell disease. Studying the basic molecular interactions between blood cells and the blood vessel, the lab's research spans from basic molecular structure to complex phenomena such as thrombosis in intact animals, with the goal of using knowledge of these molecular interactions to develop new therapies for thrombosis and sickle cell disease.In addition to its basic and translational research programs, the laboratory plays a leadership role in several university-wide initiatives focused on infectious disease and community-engaged clinical research. Dr. Barry Coller serves as Co-Director of The Rockefeller University–Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Institute for Global Infectious Disease Research and Director of the Rockefeller University Center for Clinical and Translational Science (RU-CCTS).The Rockefeller University – Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Institute for Global Infectious Disease Research is led by Dr. Charles Rice, who shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2020 for foundational research that led to the development of a therapeutic for Hepatitis C. The Institute is co-led by Drs. Michel Nussenzweig and Barry Coller. The Rockefeller University Center for Clinical and Translational Science (RU-CCTS), led by Dr. Coller, has a Community Engaged Research Core co-directed by Dr. Jonathan N. Tobin, a cardiovascular epidemiologist who conducts community-based comparative effectiveness and implementation research at Clinical Directors Network (CDN), the national practice-based research (PBRN) that he leads, which works with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and other safety-net practices that serve communities experiencing significant health and social disparities.RU-CCTS and CDN have developed an approach to conducting highly community-engaged research that examines epidemiology and outcomes in community-based settings, while embedding basic science/mechanistic assays. This team has successfully conducted a series of highly stakeholder-engaged studies on the epidemiology, treatment patterns and outcomes for patients presenting to CDN FQHCs with skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) caused by Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA and MSSA). This community-academic “full spectrum translational research” team will apply the model to Chagas disease developed during the MRSA. Chagas disease is an emerging infectious disease in the USA, primarily affecting individuals and communities from Latin America, where the disease is endemic. Overview:

Chagas disease primarily affects migrants, refugees and immigrants from Latin America, and domestic transmission in the USA is also increasing. Leading a project in the Fellow’s area of scholarship/expertise related to Chagas Disease and patients served by Federally Qualified Health Centers

Proposing additional methods and measures including emerging AI techniques to extend and enhance the full-spectrum translational research project

Serve as primary author on manuscripts led by Fellow and co-author on other manuscripts, including preparing literature reviews

Providing introductory-level training in Fellow’s area of expertise to team members and collaborators

Mentoring research staff, including trainees, clinical scholars and practicing clinicians
Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD, DrPH, ScD, DNP or equivalent degree in a relevant field such as social and behavioral science, bioethics, policy, geography/climate science or other fields that can contribute to a broader understanding of emerging infectious diseases in communities experiencing significant health disparities
