Position Summary
NEFCO Fire Investigations is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant / HR Coordinator to join our team in Rochester, New Hampshire. This role combines accounting responsibilities with key human resources functions, including new employee onboarding and employee record management.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a customer-service mindset when supporting employees throughout their employment lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
Accounting Duties
Prepare and post journal entries
Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts
Multi-state sales tax filing
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes
Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
Support payroll processing and related reporting
Assist with budgeting, financial reporting, and audit preparation
Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
Human Resources Duties
Coordinate new employee onboarding, including new hire paperwork, orientation scheduling, and system setup
Maintain employee records and ensure documentation compliance
Assist with benefits administration and employee enrollment processes
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and HR policies
Assist with HR reporting and compliance requirements
Support employee engagement and company initiatives as needed
Qualifications
Required
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
2+ years of experience as a Staff Accountant or Bookkeeper
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
Preferred
Experience with Sage Intacct and/or other similar accounting software
Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
Experience supporting onboarding or other HR functions

Pay: $68,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
