Middle School ELA Teacher
Saint Benedict School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Middle School English Language Arts Teacher to join our team for the 2025–2026 school year. This full-time position also includes serving as the 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about Catholic education and brings strong content knowledge, a love of literature and writing, and the ability to engage and support middle school learners in a faith-centered environment.

Job Responsibilities
- Plan and teach middle school ELA lessons aligned to the New York State Next Generation Standards
- Provide instruction in reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, grammar, and vocabulary
- Foster a love of reading and writing through dynamic and student-centered instruction
- Serve as the primary homeroom teacher for a 6th-grade class, overseeing daily routines, character development, and communication with families
- Maintain high academic and behavioral expectations in a supportive and faith-filled classroom
- Differentiate instruction to meet a range of student needs and learning styles
- Use data and assessment to inform instruction and monitor student progress
- Communicate consistently with families through email, phone, conferences, and a digital gradebook
- Collaborate with fellow middle school teachers and administration to support student success
- Participate in school events such as open houses, HSA activities, concerts, and more
- Engage in ongoing professional development
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (preferred)
- Valid New York State certification in English Language Arts (5–9 or 7–12) or comparable certification (preferred)
- Previous experience teaching ELA at the middle school level (Catholic school experience a plus)
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- A commitment to Catholic teachings and value
- Ability to foster meaningful relationships with students and families
- Willingness to collaborate as part of a dedicated faculty team
Employment is contingent upon:
- Successful state and federal background checks
- Completion of VIRTUS training
- Submission of all required employment documentation and references
Position Details
- Start Date: September 2025
- Schedule: 10-month, full-time
- Salary: Starting at $30,000 annually
