The Development Manager serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting AvaCon, Inc. This position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities in partnership with the leadership team. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build AvaCon’s visibility, impact, and financial resources, and will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support, including the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate, government, and foundation support. The person filling this position will work closely with the Executive Board and other team members to strengthen the organization’s fundraising capacity and secure funding for new initiatives.
Responsibilities:
D- esign and implement a development strategy for AvaCon, Inc. in consultation with the Executive Board and other team members.
F- orm and manage a development team, including identifying needs for ongoing development and overseeing the development team once formed.
C- onduct research, prospecting, and applications to multiple donor sources.
B- uild a robust donor base and maintain key long-term relationships with donors and prospects.
T- rain and mentor development staff and communicate fundraising goals and progress within the organization.

inimum qualifications:

- igh energy and passion for AvaCon’s mission is essential, including the ability to work remotely with a globally distributed team.
S- killed in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials.
P- roven success in development for nonprofits, including experience running successful campaigns and fundraising from multiple donor channels.
A- professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, take the initiative, deepen current donor relationships, and forge new ones.
A- Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR an associate’s degree in a related field with two (2) years of previous professional experience OR five (5) years of previous professional experience. Â Experience must be in fundraising and development in a professional capacity.

A- Master’s degree OR more than five (5) years of professional fundraising and development experience.
E- xperience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including tracking progress and reporting to senior managers/board of directors.
D- emonstrated excellence in organizational and managerial operations, effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives.
D- emonstrated experience expanding and cultivating donor relationships over time.
A- bility to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development plan.
