Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf is seeking a highly skilled, organized, and professional Executive ASL Interpreter & Executive Assistant to the Superintendent. This unique position combines professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting with executive-level administrative support, playing a vital role in ensuring effective communication, organizational efficiency, and strong leadership support across the school community.
As the primary interpreter for the Superintendent, you will provide communication access in a variety of professional settings while also managing the day-to-day operations of the Superintendent’s Office. - Serve as the primary ASL interpreter for the Superintendent during:
- Leadership and Executive Team meetings
- Board of Trustees meetings
- Staff, parent, and committee meetings
- Legislative and advocacy events
- Community outreach activities
- Conferences, workshops, and trainings
- Public presentations and speaking engagements
- Vendor, contractor, and government agency meetings
- Virtual meetings and webinars
- Facilitate clear and effective communication between Deaf and hearing participants.
- Prepare for interpreting assignments by reviewing agendas, presentations, and meeting materials.
- Coordinate with contracted interpreters when additional coverage is needed.
- Assist with communication accessibility planning for meetings and events.
- Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality.
- Provide interpreting support during occasional evening and weekend events.
- Manage the Superintendent’s calendar, appointments, and daily schedule.
- Coordinate meetings, conferences, workshops, and special events.
- Prepare agendas, reports, presentations, and meeting materials.
- Arrange travel, conference registrations, and itineraries.
- Track projects, deadlines, and follow-up items.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical records.
- Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence and executive communications.
- Serve as a liaison between the Superintendent and staff, families, Board members, legislators, consultants, and community partners.
- Coordinate phone calls, video conferences, and virtual meetings.
- Assist with public relations, community engagement, and other executive projects as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- RID National Interpreter Certification or equivalent national interpreter certification.
- Fluency in American Sign Language and spoken English.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting between ASL and English.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Zoom, and other office technology.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Experience working in a school or educational setting.
- Experience supporting executive-level leadership.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and Deaf education.

This full-time position offers a varied and engaging work schedule that may include:
