Loudoun Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a high-performing and customer-oriented individual to fill a Multi-Lines Underwriter position in Waterford, VA. The Multi-Lines Underwriter will be responsible for exercising underwriting discretion and judgment in the selection of applications that align with profitability goals, and will build and maintain valued relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Multi-Lines Underwriter will monitor the workflow of farm, commercial, and personal lines insurance applications, endorsements, renewals and change requests, executing appropriate actions within specified response timeframes, while ensuring adherence to Company processing standards and underwriting guidelines.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1) Underwrites and rates new business applications, renewals and endorsements for
assigned agents and either issues or forwards this work to processing for issuance.
2) Reassesses the risk of existing policies for profitability and adjusts coverage, if necessary.
3) Reviews and processes cancellations and reinstatement requests, or forwards for processing upon approval.
4) Maintains prompt and effective communication with agents via phone, written correspondence, and e-mail.
5) Promptly and effectively communicates underwriting decisions to agents and all other interested parties.
6) Monitors email and workflow for new business, quote requests, inspections, endorsements, cancellations, and renewals and executes appropriate actions within specified response timeframes.
7) Ensures proper documentation and maintenance of all internal and external correspondence, confidential information, and PII in accordance with Company guidelines.
8) In conjunction with the Marketing Manager, participates in agency marketing calls and in-person visits.
9) Participates in regular, job-relevant training opportunities to maintain necessary skills.
10) Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including company agency partners.
11) Communicates promptly, professionally, and effectively across all methods.
12) Participates in company staff meetings, trainings, and events as required.
13) Limited overnight travel from home may be required.
13) Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualified candidates will have the following:
- High school diploma or equivalency required, with high school level math and keyboarding skills and thorough knowledge of office procedures.
- 5 years’ experience as a farm, commercial, and personal lines underwriter with in-depth knowledge of Virginia property and casualty insurance underwriting standards, practices, and procedures required. Equal number of years’ experience as a Virginia Property/Casualty insurance agent may be substituted for underwriting experience.
- Excellent written and verbal English language communication, negotiation, and problem resolution abilities are required.
- Skilled in the use of computer systems and Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Exhibits empathy, courtesy, and respect when dealing with policyholders, agents, industry peers, and other employees.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to stay organized and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent time management skills required.
- Valid driver’s license issued in home residence state.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to build and maintain strong business relationships.
- Performs tasks requiring independent knowledge in addition to procedures and instructions provided.
- Demonstrates independent judgment and discretion, including the proven ability to maintain client confidence and properly protect operations through the secure handling of sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to make decisions independently and analyze and assess risk.
