SUMMARY
This position manages, monitors, and maintains oversight of Plant Operations to insure effective and efficient department operations, high quality service, and optimal performance in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Saunders Medical Center (SMC).

Manages all aspects of Plant Operations effectively and efficiently.
- Oversees day-to-day operations, which includes problem-solving issues and insuring effective processing.

Organizes and directs quality assurance functions in close cooperation with customers and with SMC’s management team.

Develops and documents department procedures to insure consistent and accurate processing.

Ensures service levels are achieved and maintained. Makes adjustments where necessary to meet service level requirements.

Works with other departments in providing services and resources.

Monitors workflow and departmental processes.

Develops and maintains department policies.

Sets and achieves department goals and objectives.
Recruits and develops a qualified and productive workforce.
- Maintains and creates department job descriptions to represent positions accurately and clearly.

Recruits, interviews and selects qualified candidates following established hiring practices and guidelines.

Orients new employees in a thorough manner to department and organizational operations, policies and procedures.

Provides training to department staff in an appropriate and thorough manner.
-
Offers opportunity for continuing education by sharing own knowledge, accessing internal opportunities, and considering external opportunities to support the continued development of department staff.

Monitors and verifies the compliance of staff in regard to maintaining required licenses and certifications, as applicable.

Uses labor resources (e.g. overtime, agency assistance, etc.) effectively.
Performs employee relations functions effectively to promote a positive work environment, influence retention and enhance communication.
- Develops, supports and actively seeks activities and establishes an environment that promotes recognition and retention for employees.

Communicates effectively and provides feedback to staff which may include department meetings, individual employee meetings, rounding, etc.

Interprets and applies department and organizational policies with consistency and fairness in managing a qualified, efficient and productive workforce.

Addresses employee issues in an effective and timely manner.

Communicates with department leadership and HR regarding employee issues appropriately in an effort to obtain guidance and reduce potential organizational liability.

Enforces and interprets policies and procedures with employees, as necessary.

Administers annual performance appraisal process for staff.
Manages departmental financial operations.
- Maintains, develops, monitors and reports budgets, expenses, variances and strategic planning for departments.

Maintains timekeeping records and updates appropriately and accurately for department staff.

Works with vendors and management, as appropriate, to negotiate best value purchases.

Participates in annual budgeting planning process and monitors variance from the budget on a monthly basis.

Advises administration on potential structural changes and additions.

Maintain and monitor asset lists for facility wide inventory.
Monitors, inspects, and ensures the safe and efficient function and operation of all buildings, equipment, systems and grounds.
- Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment, maintains preventive and routine maintenance schedules for all SMC assets, and assures that all needed maintenance is performed in accordance with those guidelines.
- Operates, maintains and tests boilers.

Performs regular inspections of equipment in accordance with preventive maintenance schedules.

Review, monitor, inspect, and communicate all Bio-Electronic logs, work orders, and schedules.

Observes, tests and logs data related to various meters, generators, and gauges.

Performs safety tests on electrical lighting, emergency generators, alarm systems, communication systems, medical equipment and HVAC system and takes appropriate action for safe operation.
- Works with outside vendors and contractors to ensure a successful project.

Analyzes repairs required, follows appropriate safety procedures, and initiates repairs.

Assures that all SMC biomedical equipment is in working condition and corrects any hazardous situations immediately.

Utilizes materials effectively.

Participates in the safety committee and monitors compliance with all applicable regulations relating to the physical plant: Life Safety Code, fire marshal inspections, OSHA, ADA, etc.

Practices the proper safety, fire and disaster procedures of the facility, and conducts periodic fire drills.
Additional Responsibilities.
- Participate and assist in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory, as well as those required and provided by the departments.

Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times and report violations to the Privacy Officer.

Understand and comply with the requirements of Saunders Medical Center’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all Saunders Medical Center-wide policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.

Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Saunders Medical Center policy.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s Degree in related field; Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
- Knowledge and experience with heating and cooling systems

Three years experience in facilities maintenance preferred

Previous experience performing maintenance in a healthcare setting preferred

Previous supervisory experience preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possess and maintain a valid Nebraska driver’s license with a good driving record
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions and possess positive skills in communication. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate at the level necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagram or schedule form. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and/or governmental regulations.
