Job Summary
Holiday Inn is seeking a dependable, energetic, and guest-focused Evening Hotel Cook to join our Food & Beverage team. The Evening Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals while creating an exceptional dining experience for our hotel guests. This individual must maintain the highest standards of food quality, cleanliness, food safety, and hospitality while working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate enjoys cooking, takes pride in presentation, works well independently, and understands the importance of delivering excellent service to every guest.
Schedule
The Evening Hotel Cook is regularly scheduled to work Sunday, Monday, and an additional 2–3 days each week based on the operational needs of the hotel. Scheduling may vary depending on occupancy levels, special events, business demand, and staffing requirements.
Restaurant Hours of Operation:
- Monday – Friday: 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM
- Saturday & Sunday: 5:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Employees are expected to arrive prior to opening to prepare the kitchen and remain after closing to complete cleaning and closing procedures. Shift start and end times may vary depending on business levels.
Food Preparation
- Prepare menu items according to Holiday Inn recipes and brand standards.
- Ensure all meals are cooked accurately, safely, and presented professionally.
- Prepare ingredients before service, including washing, chopping, portioning, and organizing.
- Maintain consistency in food quality and presentation.
- Monitor cooking times to ensure prompt service.
Kitchen Operations
- Open and prepare the kitchen for evening service.
- Ensure all equipment is operating properly before service begins.
- Maintain organized workstations throughout the shift.
- Restock food, utensils, and supplies as needed.
- Properly label, date, rotate, and store all food products using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Minimize food waste while maintaining quality standards.
Guest Service
- Prepare meals that exceed guest expectations.
- Communicate professionally with servers and hotel staff.
- Handle special dietary requests whenever possible.
- Maintain a positive attitude during busy periods.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Follow all local health department regulations.
- Maintain ServSafe food handling standards (certification preferred).
- Keep kitchen areas clean and sanitized throughout the shift.
- Properly clean grills, fryers, ovens, prep tables, refrigeration units, and kitchen equipment.
- Complete all nightly cleaning responsibilities before leaving.
Inventory & Organization
- Monitor inventory levels and notify management when supplies are low.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
- Ensure refrigeration and freezer temperatures remain within required standards.
- Help reduce food costs through proper portion control and waste prevention.
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with restaurant servers, bartenders, front desk staff, and management.
- Assist with banquet or catering functions when needed.
- Support other Food & Beverage team members during high-volume periods.
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times.
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant, hotel, or commercial kitchen experience preferred.
- Experience cooking breakfast, lunch, or dinner service is a plus.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic knife skills and food preparation knowledge.
- ServSafe Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the shift.
- Work safely around hot surfaces, ovens, grills, fryers, and kitchen equipment.
- Work in warm kitchen environments for extended periods.
