Security Guard
Position Summary
The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment for employees, visitors, contractors, and company assets. This position involves access control, visitor management, facility patrols, data hall inspections, dock security, and enforcement of company security policies.
Key ResponsibilitiesVisitor and Employee Access Control
- Greet and check in new employees, visitors, contractors, and guests.
- Verify identification and authorization for site access.
- Scan barcodes and process entries through the access control system.
- Capture ID photographs and create visitor or employee badges/stickers.
- Ensure all visitors are properly registered and escorted as required.
- Maintain accurate sign-in and sign-out records.
Security Screening
- Conduct security screening using a handheld metal detector (wand) when required.
- Ensure employees and visitors comply with security procedures.
- Require individuals entering restricted areas to leave unauthorized items outside secure zones, including:
- Cell phones
- Smart watches
- Bluetooth devices
- External hard drives
- Other prohibited electronic devices
Facility Patrols
- Perform routine patrols of the building interior and exterior.
- Walk the front premises and surrounding grounds to identify security concerns.
- Maintain awareness of suspicious activity, unauthorized individuals, homeless persons, or trespassers on company property.
- Monitor vehicle traffic entering and exiting the facility.
- Ensure vehicles are parked in authorized locations and parking regulations are followed.
Data Hall Security and Inspections
- Conduct regular walkthroughs of data halls and critical infrastructure areas.
- Inspect for water leaks, safety hazards, equipment issues, or unusual conditions.
- Verify lighting is operational and areas remain secure.
- Report any abnormal activity, damage, or environmental concerns immediately.
- Ensure access restrictions and security policies are strictly followed.
Dock and Delivery Operations
- Assist with receiving and monitoring deliveries.
- Verify delivery personnel follow site security procedures.
- Patrol loading dock areas and surrounding exterior locations.
- Ensure workers are actively performing assigned duties and not congregating unnecessarily.
- Enforce designated smoking area policies.
- Prohibit smoking or vaping within dock areas and other restricted locations.
Physical Security Measures
- Inspect doors and access points to ensure they close and latch properly.
- Report malfunctioning doors, locks, cameras, or security equipment.
- Monitor security systems and respond to alarms as required.
- Document incidents and complete required security reports.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous security, law enforcement, military, or customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive during long periods of patrol.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate security screening equipment and access control systems.
- Basic computer skills for visitor management and reporting.
- Ability to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to patrol large facilities, both indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to perform security screenings and inspect facility areas.
- Ability to lift and move packages as necessary when assisting with deliveries.
