Management of tooling used by all locations. Organization, upkeep, and building change-over “kits” according to the production schedule are the main responsibilities. Additional responsibilities include maintaining tooling for stamping, and fiber departments.
The tool room is the “library” that serves as the heart of the production departments it serves. The most valuable contributions that this position can make to the organization are providing the correct assemblies and components in a timely manner and maintaining the condition of the tool room and the articles managed within.
· Upkeep of articles (tooling and sub-components) in terms of quality and inventory management.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Standards:
- o Inspecting articles for safety, functionality, and quality at all points of intake (receiving tooling back from production), servicing (such as dressing, pre-assembly and staging) and output (building setup kits for upcoming production).
- o Verifying dimensional fidelity of assembled components and “setups” in accordance with official, current engineering specifications as provided by the Engineering Manager. Sustaining accountability for all outputs and articles kept within Tool Room.
- o Identifying, effectively investigating, and troubleshooting articles found to be out of conformance from engineering or quality specifications.
- o Developing, improving, and using inventory management techniques to maintain adequate quantities of usable parts to serve production needs internally (at Self Birmingham) and externally (at other Self locations). This includes planning and executing regular inventories, developing storage techniques, and using stocking levels/re-order points to sustain.
- o Complete training necessary to perform regular tooling maintenance according to scheduled intervals or production requirements. Some may include direct operation of CNC machine and other Machine Shop equipment. Some may require coordination with other internal personnel or outside suppliers.
- o Learn and adopt knowledge, along with others in the Engineering Department, about die assembly/maintenance and other topics adjacent to the Tool Room’s immediate scope.
- Maintenance and improvement of organizational systems for storing various forms of “tooling” and their component. Tooling includes:
1) Roll form sets
2) Cut-off dies and blades
3) Resistance weld components (copper electrodes, fixture components, coolant plumbing, etc.)
4) MIG Robot fixture components
5) Measurement gauges (length tapes, profile keys, go/no-go gauges)
6) Overlap & notch die sets
7) Stamping dies
8) Fiber roll machine tooling
Other various components used in the production of ring-line and stamping department assemblies.
- Generate paperwork packets for production orders according to current schedule.
- Pull and stage tooling for 1st & 2nd shifts for staging according to scheduled order sequence.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area within the tool room. Resist and deter any outside items, personnel, or other distractions that may jeopardize safety, organization, efficiency and effectiveness of the Tool Room’s vital operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of carts and other infrastructure used to move tooling back and forth from production departments or transported between facilities.
- Identify and inform Engineering Manager and/or machinists/maintenance when extensive repairs of are needed outside of Tool Room Attendant’s scope/abilities.
- Conform to directives from corporate and plant managers regarding safety, engineering, quality, and production demands.
- All Employees: Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner of mutual respect with suppliers, customers, co-workers, and management. Comply with all safety and employment regulations.
- Inform management about absences from work, planned and otherwise. Management is responsible for providing a backup when needed.
Requirements:·
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance procedures, reference charts, and simple dimensional/assembly illustrations or drawings.
- Familiarity with hand tools and hardware including but not limited to:
- Ratchets & sockets (hex/Allen)
- Basic knowledge of screw sizes and thread specifications.
- Basic plumbing assembly skills involving threaded pipe joints and a simple pressure verification test.
- Assembly/dis-assembly of threaded and other types of joints using various materials without causing damage and troubleshooting where problems are identified.
- Strong mindset for principles of 5S and organizational skills that contribute to a safe, correct and efficient operation in all aspects of job duties.
- Creative thinking to contribute to the continual improvement cycle within the tool room, in the production departments and in the service of other Self locations and their customers.
- Ability to plan ahead, foreseeing and preparing for upcoming production events. Ability to adjust plans according to changes in production schedule or in response to loss of equipment functionality with little to no warning. Always keeping a calm focus on key priorities (Safety/Quality/Efficiency), no matter the situation, is critical.
- Ability to prioritize work tasks and self-manage in order to constantly drive improvement in the tool room and production departments that are served.
- Physical demands require the ability to:
- Walk and work on your feet during the entire work shift in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Occasional need to stoop, crouch and kneel and do so safely.
- Safely lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, sometimes in proximity to other employees.
- Vision abilities to see small details of assemblies and parts and maintain situational awareness around working equipment and forklifts in travel around the plant.
- Noise level in the plant is usually moderate to loud.
- Employee must be able to look out for the safety of themselves and others at all times in the conditions described above.
- Basic computer skills are mandatory.
Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
