Job Title: Shelter Staff
Salary Range: $25.50 an hour - note this starts in July, if hired before then, pay is $24
Position Type: Part-time
Location: Hyde Park
Reports to: Shelter Manager and Executive Director
*** Currently looking to fill weekend shifts and weekday shifts***
DAYTIME STAFF: Shifts can vary from full 8 hour shifts, or 4 to 5 hour shifts anywhere between 6:00 am and 9:30pm.
Job Responsibilities:
- Check in on guests, maintain safety in the shelter
- Maintain confidentiality regarding our guests
- Represent LCH in a positive and professional manner: All staff is expected to treat all guests with dignity, compassion, and respect regardless of differing values, backgrounds, and beliefs. Among other professional considerations, staff is expected to project an appropriate appearance, maintain sobriety at work, communicate clearly, and maintain appropriate relationships with guests
- Do regular cleanings of the office, and any items that may be used by guests and staff
- Use our google docs and google sheets to communicate with other staff
- Attend virtual staff meetings
- Attend training sessions as assigned by Executive Director
- Follow house rules and help guests follow them as well
- Follow night and morning routines like reminding guests of curfew and quiet time, opening the kitchen and helping guests get ready for the day.
- Maintaining a safe environment for the guests to rest. If situations arise that need attention, knowing to call on-call staff and any other resources appropriate for the situation.
- Be able to wake up and tend to situations if they occur in the middle of the night.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Clearly document interactions with staff and guests
- Clearly communicate verbally with staff and guests
- Implement and maintain all rules and policies
- Understand the professional relationship boundaries required with guests
- Possess basic computer skills including Internet usage and working with simple spreadsheets and documents
- Rapidly assess situations and determine whether to call on-call staff/emergency services or not
- Multitask guest needs and maintain a welcome and safe environment for all guests
