American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and certifications including TNCC.

Large academic medical center with 885 licensed beds, Level 1 Trauma designation, and specialized centers including Chest Pain, Burn, and Stroke

Emergency Department with 55 horizontal beds, 6 vertical beds, 15 observation beds, and 5 behavioral health holding beds, averaging 200–220 patients per day

High-acuity, fast-paced regional trauma center treating ESI 1–5 patients including GSWs, stabbings, MVC, MI, CVA, burns, drownings, overdoses, cardiac and respiratory arrests, conscious sedations, and psychiatric presentations

RN patient ratios range from 3:1 to 6:1 depending on clinical area and acuity

12-hour night shifts, 1930–0730, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

No on-call requirements

May float to the ED Transition Care Unit

EMR: Epic (experience noted)

Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and GE point-of-care ultrasound and EKG machines

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC

Minimum 2 years of ED experience required

Most recent experience must be within the last year

Academic medical center or Level 1 trauma center experience required

At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

The unit is currently undergoing renovation (2nd of 3 phases complete); travelers will not typically be assigned to trauma bays during initial contracts
-
Department support includes ED Techs (ADLs, vitals, I/O, foley, phlebotomy), unit secretary, charge nurse, pod leader resource nurses, paramedic staff, SANE Quality Coordinator, and 24/7 coverage from critical care pharmacists, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist

Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Time off requests require manager approval
