About the Role
We design and build next-generation, high-performance pinball and interactive arcade systems. We are seeking an experienced Electromechanical Engineer to help transform early-stage mechanical designs and prototypes into robust, repeatable, and high-reliability mechanisms ready for volume manufacturing.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between initial mechanical concepting and factory-ready assembly. You will take complex, moving assemblies, incorporating precise spatial movement, motion control, solenoids, sensors, and structural metal/plastic fabrication and optimize them for production, durability, serviceability, and cost.
Core Responsibilities
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) & Assembly (DFA): Redesign and refine complex dynamic mechanisms to streamline assembly processes, reduce part counts, and lower BOM costs while maintaining strict structural tolerances.
- Precision Motion & Actuation Systems: Design, select, and integrate motion components (linear rails, lead screws, belt drives, stepper/servo motors, solenoids, bearings, and encoders) optimized for high-cycle dynamic applications.
- Multi-Axis Dynamic Kinematics: Develop and test multi-degree-of-freedom positioning assemblies that deliver precise, repeatable, high-speed movement under continuous cycle fatigue.
- Prototyping & Testing: Build, debug, and execute rapid iteration testing on functional mechanisms. Establish lifecycle testing, stress analysis, and failure mode analysis (FMEA) to ensure high field reliability.
- Cross-Functional Integration: Partner closely with firmware, hardware, and system architecture teams to integrate motor drivers, limit switches, optical sensors, and microcontrollers.
- Production Handoff: Create detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings (GD&T), bills of materials (BOMs), assembly documentation, and quality control fixtures for internal assembly or contract manufacturing partners.
What We're Looking For
- Education & Experience: B.S. + Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of hands-on experience bringing complex motion-control mechanisms from prototype to production.
- Precision Kinematics & Motion Control: Proven track record in designing high-cycle, multi-axis automated motion systems, including linear guides, multi-axis drive structures, belt/screw mechanisms, and motor selection.
- CAD & GD&T Expertise: Familiarity in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent) and standard drafting conventions using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T per ASME Y14.5).
- Hands-on Mechanical & Electrical Debugging: Proficiency with shop equipment (mills, lathes, 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication) and basic electronics diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
- Production Transition: Demonstrated experience taking early-stage dynamic prototypes through DFM/DFA and establishing reliable manufacturing and vendor tooling pipelines.
Skills & Experience
- Experience with consumer or commercial electromechanical products (e.g., arcade equipment, gaming machinery, robotics, automated vending, or commercial automation).
- Familiarity with embedded motion control systems, stepper/servo motor tuning, microstepping, and sensor integration (optical interruptors, Hall effect, limit switches).
- Practical knowledge of sheet metal design, injection molding, precision machining, and custom hardware fasteners.
- Experience developing custom test rigs and automated cycle-testing fixtures to validate component longevity prior to mass production.
- Knowledge of Design (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) as well as process documentation for small-to-medium scale manufacturing environments.
Pay: $115,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
