Title: Optics Fabrication Technician (A shift)

We have begun expansion into large, complex optical components by pulling together the right team, the right technology, and the right methods to provide the best-value solutions to ground-based and space-based imaging, semiconductor industry, and high energy optics, such as laser fusion and directed energy.
Hourly Pay Scale: $19.00 – $25.00
Task, Duties and Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates optical fabrication equipment such as Blanchards, Edging/ Beveling, Bandsaws, Core Drills, etc. to produce optical blanks to precision specifications.
- Follows prints, job orders, and written or verbal instructions for product specifications such as finishes, dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be held in fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used.
- Dresses wheels to specifications using dressing devices.
- Verifies dimensions for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and preset gages.
- Logs into time management system to record job hours, quantities, and other job information.
- Maintain a safe work environment following all safety procedures and company guidelines.
- Perform duties efficiently, self-motivated with a quality work ethic.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting basic mechanical issues to ensure continuous and safe operation.
Requirements: Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with ability to meet deadlines
- Good understanding of basic shop math
- Ability to pay attention to detail and follow instructions accurately
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently to optimize production efficiency and resolve issues.
- Ability to read and interpret documents.
Desired Knowledge and Skills:
- Read drawings and blueprints, interpreting geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T).
- Optical/Photonics experience.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to work in high, precarious places, and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. PPE is available and supplied.
Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb, or balance, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job could include close vision.
This position is subject to US export control laws, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), which require US person status. A “US person” is defined by these regulations as a US citizen, US lawful permanent resident (i.e., “green card holder”), political asylee, or refugee.
All employees must also be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required consistent with federal law (Form I-9). Export control assessments are conducted separately to ensure compliance with ITAR/EAR.
