Job Description: Purchasing Agent
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to oversee procurement activities for our multi-site building products manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for sourcing and purchasing supplies, materials, and services, while ensuring production teams have the resources required to meet customer demand. The successful candidate will manage vendor relationships, monitor inventory, and secure high-quality products at competitive prices, ensuring on-time and complete deliveries.
Core Responsibilities
- Source and evaluate vendors for materials, equipment, supplies, and services (new and existing).
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to secure the best value.
- Manage the full supply chain process from purchase order creation through to receipt.
- Develop and maintain vendor scorecards to assess performance.
- Execute materials planning in alignment with the master production schedule.
- Optimize inventory investment by monitoring levels and providing regular reporting.
- Ensure inventory accuracy through weekly cycle counts, audits, and physical counts, in collaboration with accounting.
- Manage intercompany material flow between warehouse locations.
- Coordinate closely with production and sales teams to support effective material planning.
- Partner with engineering to source materials and equipment for new projects.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders by recommending solutions and alternative supply options.
- Develop, implement, and maintain purchasing policies, procedures, and work instructions for procurement and contract management.

They are highly analytical, proficient in Excel, and possess strong knowledge of bills of materials. A collaborative team player, they demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, clear communication (both written and verbal), and a strong sense of accountability.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree.
- SCMP, C.P.P., or CPIM certification considered an asset.
- Minimum 2 years of purchasing/procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and MRP tools (Microsoft Dynamics or Business Central an asset).
Experience in the metals and/or building materials industry preferred
Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
