The Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of heavy construction equipment and vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation in project field locations. This role supports the field operations need in remote and changing project locations throughout the country, displaying technical expertise, preventative maintenance, and accurate documentation within the fleet management system.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electric, and hydraulic systems on heavy fleet equipment including loaders, dozers, excavators, skid steers, trucks, trailers and other equipment found in golf course construction at project site locations.
- Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance, fluid analysis, and safety inspections to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
- Manage and track parts inventory while on job sites; coordinate with Service Manager to order and replenish parts as needed.
- Perform on-site welding, cutting, and fabrication to repair or reinforce structural and body components as required.
- Utilize diagnostic software, service manuals, and specialized testing tools to identify and confirm equipment faults while at field locations.
- Utilize fleet management software (Tenna) and other digital platforms to provide accurate and timely tracking of equipment status, assigned work orders, and parts inventory to support operational planning and field scheduling.
- Accurately and timely document findings, parts usage, and labor hours in work orders in fleet management software; record all hours worked ensuring consistent and complete labor hours spent on services performed on each piece of equipment as part of work order documentation.
- Partner with Logistics team to inspect equipment before and after deployment, verifying readiness for transport and field use; load and unload equipment for transport at project sites as needed.
- Receive and onboard new equipment delivered directly to job site, coordinating with Service Manager for installation of telematics, equipment numbers, and company decals.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment meeting all DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
- Collaborate with the Service Manager and Logistics Manager on equipment status, repair options, and potential rental needs; coordinate with Project Superintendent to prioritize repairs and establish daily and weekly schedule of repairs, services, and maintenance tasks in support of project requirements.
- Partner with Operators to conduct basic Operator care of equipment including greasing, cleaning, and diesel emission filter regeneration.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE:
- Train, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to B-Level mechanics. (Specific to A-Level Mechanics)
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPENTENCIES:
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and mechanical assemblies; thorough knowledge of construction equipment and maintenance.
- Proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools, computerized service systems, and fleet management software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair procedures.
- Skilled in welding and fabrication for repair and reinforcement of equipment components.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with field operations and logistics teams.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement; promotes a strong safety culture across all job sites.
- Must supply and maintain personal set of professional-grade tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot in the field with limited supervision and make effective decisions under pressure.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Valid driver's license.
- B-Level: 2-3 years of progressive mechanic experience responsible for fleet vehicle. Proficient in diagnosing and repairing gas and diesel engines, as well as hydraulic systems.
- A-Level: 4+ years of progressive mechanic experience responsible for fleet vehicle. Strong technical expertise in diagnosing and repairing gas and diesel engines, as well as hydraulic systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-60 pounds regularly.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing in and around heavy equipment.
- Ability to safely operate and move heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers within the work area.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, vibration, dust, and other elements commonly present in field environments.
- Able to travel to job sites or company locations as needed, including travel by car or plane.·
