Title: Driver / Receiver
Reports To: Commissary Warehouse Manager
Job Summary:
Palmer’s Market is looking to expand our Driver / Receiver Team based at our Commissary Kitchen. Day to day responsibilities include checking orders, proper storage and documentation, while maintaining high standards of organization. This position will work closely with our Culinary and Operations Teams managing the organization of all materials in the commissary in addition to the receipt and inspection of all incoming supplies and outgoing goods. In the receiver function, products must be accurately checked against purchase orders, properly stored, and documented, while maintaining high standards of quality and organization. The Driver / Receiver will work closely with the culinary team, delivery personnel, and our internal Teams to ensure efficient and accurate inventory management.
Key Responsibilities:
Driving & Transportation (Primary Responsibility)
- Safely operate a company delivery vehicle (sprinter van or box truck – no specialty license required) to transport goods between our Commissary, Palmer’s Market (location is in close proximity) and occasionally offsite event locations.
- Plan and follow efficient delivery routes to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
- Load and unload goods carefully, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage and maintain product integrity.
- Pack and verify orders accurately according to customer/client needs and coordinate between locations and departments with efficiency.
- Maintain accurate delivery records including logs, receipts, confirmations, and documentation of discrepancies.
- Obtain required signatures or confirmations upon delivery.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and perform basic vehicle checks to ensure safe operation.
- Report any mechanical issues, necessary repairs, or safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure all goods are transported in compliance with food safety, health, and company standards.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, vehicle operation standards, and emergency procedures.
Receiving & Inventory
- Inspect goods from deliveries for quality, freshness, and accuracy against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Note and document discrepancies, shortages, or damage.
- Work closely with delivery personnel to ensure receipt of the correct order and report any issues to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
- Organize and store products in designated areas (walk-ins, freezers, dry storage), ensuring proper rotation and accessibility using FIFO practices.
- Maintain clean, organized, and accessible receiving and storage areas.
- Collaborate with purchasing and management teams to address inventory needs and support efficient supply chain processes.
- Participate in inventory counts and inventory accuracy initiatives as needed.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service when interacting with vendors and delivery personnel.
Facility Support & Sanitation
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the receiving dock and storage areas.
- Assist with facility sanitation tasks as assigned.
- Perform maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and addressing minor equipment issues.
- Report larger maintenance needs or facility concerns to management promptly.
- Support overall compliance with food safety and workplace safety standards.
Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up heavy items up to 50lbs
- Ability to safely operate a delivery van or box truck
- Comfortable working in cold environments (freezer, walk-ins, etc)
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail with ability to correct problems such as refusing bad delivery
- Can-do attitude and proactive personality
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times
- Experience working in food, retail, warehouse experience a plus
- Reliable for early mornings, late evenings, or weekends, depending on delivery schedule
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Good physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry heavy items (50 pounds)
- Basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle maintenance.
- Capability to sit and drive for extended periods.
- Basic knowledge of maintenance tasks and willingness to learn
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and under minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and hygiene
- Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times
- Reliable for early mornings, late evenings, or weekends, depending on delivery schedule
