JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Assistant (MA) provides direct clinical support to pediatric providers in a fast-paced healthcare setting. This role is responsible for rooming patients, performing age-appropriate screenings, administering vaccines and medications within scope of practice, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring exam rooms and treatment areas are properly prepared and sanitized. The Medical Assistant works collaboratively with providers, staff, patients, and parents to ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care in compliance with clinic protocols, regulatory requirements, and HIPAA standards.
Essential Job Responsibilities & Duties
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Room patients for physical examinations and office visits in a timely manner including connecting telemedicine appointments for providers and patients
- Take and accurately document patient vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure
- Perform and document age-appropriate clinical screenings and tests, including vision and hearing screenings, hemoglobin testing, lead testing, urinalysis, and TB testing
- Administer vaccines, medications, and injections within scope of practice and provider direction
- Assist physicians during medical examinations and procedures and prepare exam rooms accordingly
- Assess patients for immediate medical attention and escalate concerns to providers as needed
- Complete all Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation, patient forms, and assigned tasks in a timely manner
- Enter patient vitals, visit documentation, and vaccine records into the electronic health record system (NextGen)
- Maintain clean, stocked, and sanitized exam rooms and treatment areas daily
- Monitor vaccine inventory and refrigerator temperatures in accordance with clinic and regulatory standards
- Maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and comply with all HIPAA and organizational privacy standards
- Assist providers with Spanish-to-English translation when necessary
- Support desk duties as assigned, including answering phones, returning calls, coordinating with pharmacies, labs, and hospitals, and responding to patient or parent inquiries
- Prepare and complete patient forms, including WIC forms, school forms, and vaccine records, within required timelines
- Assist with chart abstraction, and vaccine data entry when scheduled
- Support obesity management guidelines during exams by identifying patients who meet referral criteria and generating referrals as directed by providers
- Collect samples for laboratory testing in accordance with clinic protocols
- Adhere to PPE, infection control, and hygiene protocols
- Participate in clinic opening or closing duties when scheduled
- Demonstrate professionalism, strong communication skills, and a patient-centered approach always
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Completion of accredited medical assistant school program
- High School Diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Working knowledge of computers and accurate keyboarding skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Ability to reliably report to scheduled shifts
Preferred Qualifications
- Six (6) months or more of prior Medical Assistant experience
- Experience administering vaccines and injections
- Current CPR certification
- Experience using electronic medical record systems (NextGen or similar)

Work Environment & Physical Demands Summary
This position is based in a professional, fast-paced pediatric medical office with routine exposure to patients, including communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and cleaning agents. Employees must follow all safety, HIPAA, and OSHA requirements. The environment is typically climate-controlled with moderate noise levels that may increase during busy periods.

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
