American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown Care Unit position requiring ICU/Intermediate nursing experience with trach and vent skills.

Work in the Stepdown Care Unit of an acute care hospital setting
-
Unit has 20 beds, including 8 private and 12 semi-private rooms
-
Nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1
-
Care for patients with COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions, plus some neuro/surgical/cardiac cases
-
Manage patients on Bipap, Cpap, face mask ventilators, trachs, and vented trach patients
-
Manage chest tubes, G tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
-
Titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent Vasopressors
-
Uses Epic EMR
-
12-hour day shifts, 7am-7pm
-
Every other weekend required (day shift works Sat/Sun)

Every other holiday rotation, including working the companion day of major holidays
-
No call or standby requirements
-
Floating required, with priority given to travel RNs based on ICU experience
-
All patients on bedside Phillips monitors; tele techs interpret strips with RN confirmation
-
Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage available 24/7
-
2 PCTs per shift supporting patient care
-
Any scrub color permitted
-
Active IL RN license required
-
Current BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS recommended
-
Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
-
ICU or Intermediate/Stepdown experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio required

Progressive care or telemetry-only experience is not sufficient
-
Trach and vent experience required due to frequent trach/vented patients on the unit

BSN not required for this position

Provide direct nursing care including drip titration, ventilator/trach management, and monitoring of complex medical patients
-
Travel RNs are first to float and may be assigned to ICU, other Stepdown units, or Gen Med based on patient acuity and staffing needs
-
Unit orientation includes 1 day for Epic training, 1 day with the unit educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN
-
Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local pay rate
-
COVID vaccination is not required for this position
