We are seeking a Railroad Dump Truck Driver who is responsible for safely operating dump trucks to transport materials such as ballast, dirt, and debris to and from rail construction, repair, and maintenance sites. This role requires working near live rail tracks and compliance with all railroad safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate dump trucks to haul ballast, rock, and other materials to/from rail job sites
- Load and unload materials using hydraulic dump mechanisms
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance (fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, etc.)
- Adhere to railroad safety protocols including flagging, PPE usage, and track awareness
- Work closely with railroad crews, equipment operators, and site supervisors
- Maintain accurate driving logs and material transport records
- Navigate to and from rural, urban, and rail-based work locations
- Ensure truck loads are secure and within DOT weight limits
- Assist with ground crew labor when not actively driving, as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A or B
- Clean driving record
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience operating dump trucks (railroad experience a plus)
- Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA trucking regulations
- Ability to pass drug screening and railroad safety training
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work nights, weekends, or extended hours depending on rail job needs
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs
- Stand, bend, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces for extended periods
- Comfortable working near heavy equipment and active rail lines
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) rules and regulations
- Experience working on or around railroads or in construction environments
- Mechanical aptitude for basic truck troubleshooting
