Position Overview
The Optical Technician supports both clinical and optical operations by assisting with pre‑testing, eyewear selection, lens education, and patient communication. This role is ideal for someone who is detail‑oriented, friendly, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate pre‑testing and prepare patients for their eye exam.
- Gather and verify patient data and insurance benefits.
- Assist patients in selecting frames and explain lens options, coatings, and upgrades.
- Enter orders for glasses and contact lenses with precision.
- Adjust, repair, and clean eyewear to ensure proper fit and comfort.
- Maintain organized optical displays and ensure products are well‑presented.
- Support the doctor and team with clinical flow and patient communication.
- Follow safety, quality, and documentation standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in optical, medical, or retail customer service preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Excellent communication and patient‑care skills.
- Comfortable using computers and learning new systems.
- Ability to stand, sit, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods.
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Knowledge of optical products, lens materials, and frame adjustments.
- Familiarity with optometry workflows or diagnostic equipment.
- Understanding of optical manufacturing or equipment maintenance.
