Position Overview: West Boylston Public Schools is seeking a student-centered, collaborative, and knowledgeable Middle/High School Guidance Counselor to support students in grades 612. The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive developmental school counseling program that promotes students' academic achievement, college and career readiness, social-emotional development, and post-secondary planning.The School Counselor serves as a member of the school's student support team and collaborates with administrators, teachers, families, related service providers, and community agencies to ensure equitable access to educational opportunities and supports for all students.Key Responsibilities: The Middle/High School Guidance Counselor will: Implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the Massachusetts Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs (MASCA).Assist students with academic planning, course selection, scheduling, and graduation requirements.Monitor student academic progress and identify students requiring additional academic or behavioral supports.Collaborate with teachers and administrators to promote student achievement and school engagement.Provide college, career, and post-secondary planning for students in grades 612.Assist students and families with college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, career exploration, military options, apprenticeships, and workforce readiness.Coordinate standardized testing, including PSAT, SAT, AP, and other assessments as appropriate.Prepare transcripts, school reports, letters of recommendation, and required documentation for post-secondary institutions.Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling addressing academic, social-emotional, and behavioral concerns.Promote student resilience, self-advocacy, executive functioning, conflict resolution, and healthy decision-making.Collaborate with school staff to implement social-emotional learning initiatives and positive school climate practices.Make referrals to outside mental health agencies and community resources when appropriate.Serve as an active member of the Student Support Team (SST), MTSS team, Section 504 Team, and other multidisciplinary teams.Collaborate with special education staff regarding student supports and transition planning.Participate in crisis prevention, intervention, and response efforts.Assist with attendance interventions and dropout prevention initiatives.Develop positive partnerships with families through regular communication regarding student progress and planning.Coordinate meetings with parents, teachers, and outside agencies to support student success.Maintain effective relationships with colleges, employers, community agencies, and mental health providers.Maintain confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and all applicable state and federal regulations.Utilize student data to identify needs, monitor outcomes, and improve counseling services.Demonstrate culturally responsive practices that promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal
