Schedule: 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts
Rippowam Animal Hospital in Stamford, CT is looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician with strong surgical and anesthesia skills to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who is confident monitoring anesthesia, enjoys working in surgery, and wants to continue developing their technical and leadership skills.
With six surgery days each week, our surgery team has the opportunity to work with a diverse range of cases in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. We are looking for someone with at least 2 years of veterinary technician experience and hands-on surgical experience.
What You'll Do
As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will play a key role in preparing, monitoring, and caring for surgical patients before, during, and after procedures. Responsibilities include:
- Prepare surgical patients for procedures, including placing IV catheters and administering pre-anesthetic medications
- Induce, monitor, and maintain anesthesia under the direction of the veterinarian
- Confidently monitor anesthetic patients and recognize changes in patient status
- Perform surgical monitoring, including anesthesia monitoring and patient parameter documentation
- Assist veterinarians with surgical procedures and patient care
- Provide thorough post-operative monitoring and recovery
- Perform patient treatments, venipuncture, catheter placement, and other veterinary technician duties
- Maintain surgical equipment, instruments, and treatment areas
- Assist with a variety of surgical cases, including soft tissue surgery, foreign body procedures, orthopedic cases, TECA procedures, and more
- Participate in monthly spay/neuter clinics supporting local animal rescues
- Work collaboratively with veterinarians and the veterinary technician team to provide high-quality patient care
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician who can confidently step into a surgical role.
Required:
- At least 2 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in surgery
- Strong anesthesia monitoring and patient care skills
- Ability to work confidently in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Dependable, accountable, and committed to providing excellent patient care
Preferred:
- CVT, LVT, or RVT certification preferred but not required
- Experience with surgery and monitoring anesthesia
- Interest in mentoring or taking on future leadership responsibilities
