Senior Optical Engineer
Job Description
Function: Sr Optical Engineer
Location: (various locations US)
Education Required:
BS – Optics, Imaging Science Physics, MS - Optics Preferred
Years of Relevant Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10-12 equivalent years of experience in optical imaging systems. 6+ in space-based systems, preferred
Required Skills/Experience:
Must have a minimum of 6+ years of experience with a demonstrated ability to design both refractive and reflective optical systems.
Proficient in CODE V as preferred design tool, or ZEMAX.
Experience with Matlab
Experience with camera sensor base imaging sensors
Must have or be able to obtain a DoD TS security clearance
Responsibilities:
Perform optical sensor level and subassembly design including ray tracing, tolerance analysis and design for both testability and manufacturability.
Work with other systems engineering and other optical and mechanical disciplines in performing trades to optimize the optical design to fit multiple constraints, including packaging and operational environments.
Specify optical component and sub-assembly requirements and drawings. Interface with supply chain management and suppliers.
Develop assembly, integration and test procedures as well as data analysis software when required. Make presentations both internally and before the customer.
Work with an integrated mechanical, optical and operations team to achieve performance, cost, schedule and quality goals.
Support Engineering and R & D
a. Analyzing and verifying designs from R&D group and performing assigned experiments for
R&D projects.
b. Documenting the process for existing or new projects.
