Store Associate / Cashier – Flexible Morning & Evening Shifts

Xpress Mart is currently hiring a dependable and flexible Store Associate/Cashier.
Our immediate staffing need includes:
- Opening shift: approximately 5:45 AM – 9:00 AM
- Closing shifts as needed: approximately 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM or 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Dependability for the opening shift is extremely important. When scheduled to open, you must be able to consistently arrive on time and ready to work by 5:45 AM.
We are looking for someone with open or flexible availability who is willing to work different shifts as business and staffing needs change. Applicants should not be limited exclusively to mornings or evenings.
Availability for weekends and holidays is also required.
Applicants who cannot meet our availability, punctuality, or reliability requirements may not be considered.
About Xpress Mart
Xpress Mart is a locally and family-owned independent gas station and convenience store serving the Pensacola community.
We are a small, close-knit team looking for a reliable and motivated Store Associate who can handle cashier responsibilities, provide excellent customer service, keep the store clean and stocked, and assist wherever needed.
This is a hands-on position in a moderate-to-high-paced environment depending on season and customer traffic. We are looking for someone dependable, positive, flexible, and interested in long-term, consistent employment.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking someone who is:
- Extremely reliable, punctual, and consistent
- Able to reliably report for 5:45 AM opening shifts
- Flexible enough to work morning, afternoon, and/or evening shifts as needed
- Available for weekends and holidays
- A strong team player willing to help in multiple areas of the store
- Comfortable with cashiering, customer service, cleaning, and stocking
- Comfortable working independently when scheduled
- Willing to learn and follow established systems and procedures
- Able to follow direction from store management
- Looking for steady, long-term employment
Pay & Scheduling
Pay: Starting at minimum wage, with opportunities for increased hours and scheduling stability based on performance, attendance, and reliability.
Scheduling: More consistent and stable scheduling may become available after training and a period of demonstrated reliability.
Schedules are based on business needs and seasonal demand.
We are looking for someone who wants long-term, consistent work, not short-term or temporary employment.
Shift Availability
Our store generally operates:
- Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM
- Saturday–Sunday: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Employees responsible for opening may be scheduled to arrive before the store opens, including approximately 5:45 AM.
Applicants must:
- Have flexibility within our operating hours
- Be able to work early mornings when scheduled
- Be willing to work afternoon/evening closing shifts when needed
- Be available for weekends and holidays
- Have dependable transportation
Blackout dates may apply around major holidays when time-off requests are limited due to staffing needs.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, prompt, and professional customer service
- Accurately operate the POS/register and credit card systems
- Process lottery sales and assist with lottery-related transactions
- Process EBT transactions
- Handle money services and other applicable convenience-store transactions
- Assist customers with fuel transactions
- Follow applicable state and federal regulations, including age-restricted product sales
- Maintain coffee and food-service areas
- Keep the store clean, organized, stocked, and customer-ready
- Stock and face coolers, shelves, freezers, and merchandise
- Assist with receiving merchandise and light inventory organization/counts
- Maintain clean restrooms, sales floor, checkout area, and exterior areas
- Take out trash and help maintain the appearance of the property
- Follow cash-handling, safety, and loss-prevention procedures
- Work cooperatively with management and coworkers
- Complete opening and/or closing duties when assigned
- Work independently during certain shifts while managing customers, the register, cleaning, stocking, and general store upkeep
Minimum Qualifications
- Reliable transportation
- Strong attendance and punctuality
- Willingness and ability to complete training
- Strong customer-service and communication skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Willingness to work weekends and holidays
- Ability to follow attendance and call-out procedures
- Ability to follow instructions and established store procedures
- Must be willing to undergo periodic background checks and drug testing
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous gas station or convenience-store experience
- Retail, cashier, or customer-service experience
- Experience with lottery sales and lottery vending machines
- Experience with fuel transactions
- Experience with EBT
- Experience with money orders, check cashing, Western Union, or similar money services
- Experience handling and balancing cash drawers
- Stocking or inventory experience
- Experience with POS or pricebook systems
- Stable work history
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bilingual is a plus (Spanish welcome)

- Follow management direction and established store procedures
- Provide appropriate professional notice when resigning from the position
