JOB TITLE: Play & Learn Staff
REPORTS TO: Youth & Family Director and/or as assigned
FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly
JOB PURPOSE:
The Play & Learn Staff member provides direct care and supervision for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years in a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. This role supports children’s development through age-appropriate activities while building positive relationships with families. Staff serve as role models of professionalism, inclusion, and YMCA values while contributing to a high-quality youth experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):

Provide constant, active supervision of children at all times to ensure safety and well-being

Greet children and families warmly at arrival and departure, supporting a positive member experience

Lead and support age-appropriate, structured activities that encourage development and engagement

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment and equipment

Communicate professionally and regularly with parents and guardians

Follow and consistently enforce all program policies, safety procedures, and licensing requirements

Model inclusive practices that ensure all children feel safe, respected, and welcome

Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct in all interactions

Maintain current knowledge of YMCA programs, policies, and procedures
-
Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse.

Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff.

Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements.

Required:
-
Must be at least 18 years of age
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Minimum of six months experience working with children ages 6 weeks–12 years
-
Strong desire and demonstrated ability to work with children
-
Current CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Certification (will provide upon hire)

Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with children, parents, and coworkers

Reliable attendance and punctuality
Preferred:

Bilingual - English/Spanish.
