SUMMARY
The Constituent Liaison offers key support services to the Mayor’s Office. This position requires a highly organized, service-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and consistently delivers excellent customer service with precision and focus.
The selected individual will possess exceptional communication skills, enabling effective engagement with both the media and the public. Strong leadership abilities are crucial for guiding department heads and city employees in managing media relations and developing customer service strategies. To successfully manage tasks and projects, the individual must exhibit strong leadership and maintain clear, consistent communication with the Deputy Director of Administration, and Communications Director, ensuring timely updates and alignment on key priorities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist the Communications Director with media relations for the Mayor's Office and City departments, including drafting and distributing press releases, media advisories, and public announcements.
- Serve as a communications liaison between the Mayor's Office, City departments, community organizations, and members of the media.
- Assist in developing talking points, speeches, proclamations, correspondence, and presentation materials for the Mayor and City leadership.
- Coordinate and provide support for City events, ribbon cuttings, flag raisings, press conferences, community meetings, and other official functions.
- Attend City events and community activities to document programs and initiatives through photography and video.
- Organize, maintain, and archive digital photos and multimedia content for future communications, publications, and historical records.
- Draft engaging social media content that accurately reflects City events, initiatives, and the missions of participating organizations.
- Manage and publish content across the City's social media platforms while maintaining a consistent voice and brand.
- Monitor social media platforms by responding to messages, comments, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner, escalating issues when appropriate.
- Develop strategies to increase public engagement, expand the City's digital presence, and promote City programs, services, and events.
- Assist with creating newsletters, website content, marketing materials, flyers, and other public information resources.
- Work closely with the Chief Equity Officer on matters related to constituents, community organizations, neighborhood associations, and stakeholder outreach.
- Handle all phases of constituent inquiries and complaints received through the Mayor's Office, City Council, email, phone, social media, or other channels, maintaining accurate records and providing regular status updates.
- Represent the Mayor's Office at community meetings, neighborhood events, public forums, and other official assignments as directed.
- Coordinate media opportunities and assist with the planning and execution of press conferences and public announcements.
- Collaborate with City departments to gather information and ensure timely, accurate communication with residents.
- Assist in the development and implementation of special projects, public outreach campaigns, and community engagement initiatives.
- Research and recommend communication strategies to improve public awareness, transparency, and resident engagement.
- Handle confidential information with discretion and maintain the highest standards of professionalism.
- Provide communications staffing support for the Mayor's Office during weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
- May be required to attend meetings, special events, community activities, and emergency response situations outside of normal business hours. This position requires flexibility and availability to respond on evenings, weekends, holidays, and on a 24/7 basis when operational needs arise.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Bi-lingual or tri-lingual (English, and either Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, and Portuguese, or other language used by a significant portion of the city population) and residing either in the city or in a surrounding city or community. A resident of the City of Pawtucket is strongly preferred.
Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to engage, communicate and interact effectively within diverse communities throughout the city.
A passion for community service and the ability to work evenings and weekends, attending meetings and events as needed.
The ability to analyze and understand general business periodicals and professional journals.
Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and the ability to create reports, business correspondence and presentations in English and other languages, as noted above.
Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the public.
Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and at least two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in community relations, government relations or similar related fields. Experience in non-violence training is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write and speak English and a second (or third) language used by a significant portion of the community, including but not limited to Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid drivers’ license in state of residence.

Pay: $42,500.00 - $55,000.00 per year
