Overview
Recycleworks is looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic to keep our fleet of collection trucks and recycling equipment running safely and reliably. You'll be the person our drivers and operations team count on to diagnose problems fast, get trucks back on the road, and catch small issues before they become breakdowns in the field. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in doing the job right the first time and wants to work somewhere their experience is actually valued — competitive pay, a company service truck provided, and a team that treats maintenance as mission-critical, not an afterthought.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy-duty diesel trucks (Class 7-8) and related recycling/collection equipment, including engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and manufacturer software, and determine the most efficient repair path.
- Complete DOT-required inspections and ensure all vehicles meet federal, state, and company safety and compliance standards.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and body repair as needed on truck bodies, and hoppers.
- Maintain accurate, timely records of all inspections, repairs, and parts used in the shop's maintenance system.
- Respond to roadside or on-site breakdowns as needed to minimize downtime and keep routes running.
- Order parts and manage inventory for common wear items to avoid delays in repairs.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, OSHA-compliant shop environment.
Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical training in diesel mechanics preferred.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic on heavy-duty trucks; waste, recycling, or refuse industry experience is a strong plus.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic systems used on packer bodies, roll-offs, or balers preferred.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL (Class A or B) preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Own a standard set of hand tools; specialty/diagnostic tools provided by the shop.
- ASE certifications (especially in diesel/heavy truck systems) preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work in varied weather conditions, and stand/bend/kneel for extended periods.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
