Nursing Assistant
The role of the nursing assistant is to provide support for the registered nurse caring for patients and to assist competing overflow work from the prescription department. We are looking for a candidate that has 3-5 years of medical assistant experience, preferably in a specialty office.
Responsibilities:
- Prescription Refills
- Refill medications electronically via eMAR.
- Complete Prior Authorizations on Cover my Meds
- Assist with patient assistance forms
- Provide sample drugs to patient when appropriate
- Coumadin Clinic
- Receive INR from the RN. If the INR is in range, no dosing instructions will be provided. The NA will instruct the patient to continue current dose and retest per patient’s designated schedule. If the INR is out of range, it will be sent to the NA with dosing instructions from the RN.
- Once patient has been contacted, the NA will complete the task on the Coumadin schedule and move the patient to the next date patient was advised to test on.
- Polysomnograms
- The NA will receive the order from the MD or the RN to process a polysomnogram (sleep study). Order will be processed as a home or in lab study, depending on the order. If order does not specify, the NA will call the patient to determine their preference. NA will process the order and document in a PHI.
- The RN will receive the results of the sleep study and educate the patient on results. If patient needs the second portion of the test, the titration study, the RN will send an order to the NA to complete.
- The RN will receive the results of the titration study and update patient. The NA will then be tasked to order the CPAP equipment.
- Physician Responses
- The RN will task the MD when appropriate.
- The RN will reassign the response from the MD to the NA. The NA will call the patient and update the patient with the physician response.
- The NA will update the medication list if response includes a medication change.
- Scribing/ Call Log
- The NA will assist by pulling voicemails and entering the calls on the RN Scribe Log. The NA can assist the RN’s by calling back patients with requests that the NA can complete within his or her scope of practice.
