Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Optometric Technician to join our team. As an Optometric Technician, you will work closely with optometrists to provide exceptional patient care and support in a clinical setting. Your role will involve performing various diagnostic tests, assisting with eye examinations, and ensuring the smooth operation of the optometry practice.
Duties:
- Conduct preliminary eye examinations, including taking patient history and documenting chief complaints
- Perform diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and visual field testing
- Administer eye drops and other medications as directed by the optometrist
- Assist with contact lens fittings, including insertion and removal training for patients
- Prepare patients for specialized testing, such as retinal imaging or corneal topography
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using electronic health record systems
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment according to established protocols
- Provide patient education on proper eye care, contact lens hygiene, and spectacle lens options
- Assist with front desk duties, including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and collecting payments
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy and physiology related to the eye
- Experience in patient care within an optometry or ophthalmology setting is preferred
- Understanding of optical principles and ability to assist patients with frame selection
- Knowledge of medical records management and electronic health record systems
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
