About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Aerospace Painter to join our production team. In this role, you will prepare, mask, and apply coatings to ground support equipment and structures in accordance with strict aerospace industry standards, ensuring every finish meets both cosmetic and functional specifications for corrosion resistance, durability, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for painting through sanding, cleaning, masking, and priming aircraft parts and assemblies
- Mix paints, primers, sealants, and coatings to precise specifications using approved formulas and ratios
- Apply primers, topcoats, and specialty coatings using spray guns, HVLP systems, and other approved application methods
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings to determine paint schemes and coating requirements
- Perform touch-up and rework on painted surfaces as needed
- Inspect finished work for defects such as runs, orange peel, overspray, or inconsistent coverage
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, batch numbers, and process documentation for traceability using Travelers
- Operate and maintain spray booths, ventilation systems, booth filters, and paint equipment
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and respiratory protection
- Adhere to environmental and regulatory compliance standards (EPA, OSHA, and company QMS requirements)
- Collaborate with quality assurance and engineering teams to resolve coating issues
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3+ years of experience in aerospace, automotive, or industrial painting (aerospace experience strongly preferred)
- Working knowledge of paint application techniques, including HVLP spray systems
- Ability to read blueprints is preferred,
- Ability to read technical drawings and follow work instructions is required
- Understanding of surface preparation methods and coating systems
- Familiarity with aerospace coatings and specifications (e.g., chromate conversion coatings, epoxy primers, polyurethane topcoats) a plus
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Preferred:
- Experience with military coating specifications and MIL-PRF standards
- Prior certification in aerospace painting or coatings application is helpful
- Experience working in an AS9100-certified environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach and lift for extended periods in a consistent 10-hour workday
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable wearing respirators and other PPE for extended shifts
- Ability to work in a spray booth environment with fumes and controlled ventilation
