Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper to join our team. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the company, including general accounting, financial reporting, payroll processing, tax compliance, account reconciliations, and other accounting functions. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and experience preparing payroll tax filings and maintaining accurate financial records. This individual will ensure compliance with applicable regulations while providing accurate and timely financial information to support management decisions. This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule within standard business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM).
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Accounting
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, including preparing and posting journal entries.
- Prepare financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and other internal reports.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and assist in fiscal period opening/closing.
- Monitor and analyze accounting data to produce financial reports.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Generate customer invoices and statements; post payments and cash receipts.
- Prepare deposit slips and process collections.
Banking and Reconciliation
- Maintain daily cash balances and update bank accounts.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
- Maintain checkbooks and petty cash accounts.
- Reconcile credit card statements and process payments.
Payroll and Tax Compliance
- Process payroll for office and field staff; review timecards and ensure accuracy.
- Maintain payroll records, vacation accruals, and confidential personnel files.
- Ensure timely submission and payment of payroll taxes.
- Respond to tax agency inquiries (IRS, SSA) regarding payroll forms such as 940, 943, W-2, W-3, and 1099s.
- File and reconcile 401k employee/employer contributions.
- Submit payroll audits (workers’ comp, 401(k) census, year-end contributions).
- Maintain and update payroll tax rates and 401(k) limits in payroll systems.
- Prepare and file year-end reports: W-2s, W-3s, 1099s, 940s, 943s.
- Process employee bonuses and review earning/deduction codes.
Regulatory and Administrative
- Prepare weekly flash reports and various government filings (Form 5500-SF, 2290, Environmental Fee Return, Motor Carrier Permit).
- Assist with insurance renewals, ERISA bond, and other compliance-related documentation.
- Maintain asset listings, DMV registrations, and general ledger accounts.
- Process the annual Grower Shipper Questionnaire.
- Maintain documentation for audits and coordinate with external auditors as needed.
Software & Systems
- Use accounting software for data entry and reporting (experience with Famous Software, and PETiger is highly preferred).
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with accounting systems or reporting software.
- Maintain spreadsheets and financial records in Excel (advanced skills required).

- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Typing speed of at least 45 WPM.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of continuous accounting, payroll and tax filing experience preferred.
- Experience with agricultural payroll, accounting, or bookkeeping is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to access and work in various departments throughout the company.
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
