Iron and Metal Warehouse Worker
Position Summary
The Iron and Metal Warehouse Worker is responsible for receiving, sorting, processing, storing, and shipping ferrous and non-ferrous metals in a safe and efficient warehouse environment. This role requires operating material handling equipment, maintaining inventory accuracy, and following all company safety procedures while supporting daily warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, sort, and organize incoming iron, steel, and other metal products.
- Prepare customer orders by selecting, packaging, and staging materials for shipment.
- Identify and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals according to company procedures.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts.
- Keep warehouse, storage yards, and work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Inspect equipment daily and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Follow OSHA regulations and all company safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with general warehouse duties and work collaboratively with team members to meet production and shipping deadlines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Basic math and inventory skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift heavier materials with assistance or equipment.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Safely handle heavy metal products and equipment while maintaining awareness of surroundings.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a warehouse and metal yard environment with exposure to dust, noise, moving machinery, and changing temperatures. Employees are required to wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and high-visibility clothing as required.
