Strong family law paralegals can run a case file better than half the attorneys they support. If that's you, and you've built your career in family law because the work matters to you, keep reading.
Many firms will never give you the title, the autonomy, or the pay that matches what you actually do all day. This one will.
AFTA is a Texas family law firm with offices in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and the Rio Grande Valley. Our founder, Gianni Avalos, started her own career as a family law paralegal before building AFTA and creating Single Mom Attorney, one of the largest legal-education platforms for women navigating family law. More than 90% of our clients find us there, so they arrive already understanding our approach and ready to work. That means less hand-holding and more real work, for our attorneys and for the paralegals who run cases beside them.
Here, paralegals are not glorified secretaries. The person who built this firm has done your job, so she knows exactly how much skill and judgment it takes. That's why paralegals here are the operational and substantive backbone of every case, and are hired, paid, and trusted accordingly. If you've spent years being the most capable person in the room without the title to match, this is the room you've been working toward.
THE WORK
- Draft motions, decrees, agreed orders, discovery, special provisions, and trial materials

- Handle filings (e-file, hand-file, county-specific quirks) without anyone looking over your shoulder
- Work beside a team of qualified paralegals, board-certified colleagues among them. Working toward board certification yourself? This is the team to do it with.
- Real autonomy on case logistics, with a managed caseload that lets the quality of your work actually show
