WFQ has a direct hire opportunity for an Vertical Turret Lathe Operator with our client located in Redford, MI.
Job Summary for the Industrial Maintenance Technician:
This position contributes to the company's success by having a thorough understanding with specialized experience in machining large-scale, heavy metallic components. The operator will be responsible for large-format vertical mills to machine critical parts weighing over 500lbs. and exceeding 24” in section size. The role requires strong attention to detail, precision, and the ability to follow instructions accurately. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- The VTL Operator should have expertise setting up and operating the turret lathe to perform series of machining operations such as turning, boring, threading, and facing on metal workpieces.
- Should have experience working with large parts.
- Reading blueprints, job orders, and tooling instructions to ensure proper machining of specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Positioning and securing tools in toolholders on the turret and cross-slide, using wrenches.
- Moving controls to set specified rotation speeds, feed rates, and depth of cuts.
- Positioning and securing workpieces in the chuck or to the faceplate, using wrenches.
- Indexing the turret and adjusting positions of tools at each station in relation to the workpiece to assure clearance between moving parts.
- Observing operation and indexing the turret between operations.
- The VTL Operator must be well versed in verifying conformance of machined workpieces to specifications using micrometers, calipers, and fixed gauges.
- Computing data such as dimensions, rotation speeds, feed rates, and machining times using knowledge of shop mathematics and metal properties.
- Possessing experience with custom or production work or with particular material, product, level of precision, or machine of size, type, or trade name.

Pay: $26.43 - $29.74 per hour
