We are seeking an experienced Marine Combo Welder / Fitter to support new construction and repair work in a shipyard environment. This role requires a skilled tradesperson who can handle both fit-up and welding, working with carbon steel and taking projects from blueprint to final weld with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel marine structures and components
- Fit, align, and assemble structural steel, plate, and ship components
- Execute both new fabrication and repair/modification work on vessels and marine equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layout specifications
- Tack and secure components to maintain proper alignment and weld sequence
- Use torches, grinders, and layout tools to prep, modify, and repair materials
- Ensure all work meets marine quality and safety standards
- Work in shipyard conditions including outdoors, confined spaces, and heights
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a combo welder/fitter in marine or heavy industrial environments
- Strong MIG welding skills on carbon steel (FCAW and/or Stick highly preferred)
- Ability to switch between new build and repair work efficiently
- Solid blueprint reading and layout skills
- Ability to pass a hands-on weld test and fit-up test
- Physically capable of demanding shipyard work
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work with minimal supervision
Preferred:
- Previous shipyard or vessel repair experience
- Knowledge of marine welding standards/procedures
- OSHA or shipyard safety certifications
- Experience with rigging or working around heavy equipment
