Overview
We are looking for an Architectural Designer with at least 2 years of professional experience who wants meaningful responsibility and broad exposure to the full project process. We welcome candidates with significantly more experience and will shape responsibility and compensation accordingly. This is not a narrowly defined drafting position. You will contribute from schematic design through construction documents and construction administration, while working closely with our principal and experienced team members.
The strongest candidate will combine design judgment, technical curiosity, and dependable follow-through. We value people who ask good questions, communicate clearly, and enjoy figuring out how a design becomes a well-built project.
Duties
- Develop architectural drawings from schematic design through design development and construction documents.
- Produce accurate plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, permit sets, and construction sets.
- Translate sketches, markups, design concepts, and client feedback into clear architectural documentation.
- Assist with programming, space planning, site studies, and schematic design options.
- Coordinate drawings with structural, civil, mechanical, landscape, lighting, and other consultants.
- Support zoning, permitting, historic review, and other regulatory submissions.
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, contractor meetings, and internal design reviews.
- Help track decisions, open questions, revisions, deadlines, and coordination items across active projects.
- Assist during construction with RFIs, submittals, field questions, punch lists, and site documentation.
- Collaborate with our interiors work on kitchens, baths, cabinetry, lighting, materials, and interior detailing.
- Contribute to evolving office standards, Revit/AutoCAD workflows, templates, and quality-control systems.
Experience
- At least 2 years of professional architectural experience; candidates with greater experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Architecture, or comparable professional architectural education.
- Experience with custom residential architecture & renovations
- Strong drafting and construction-document skills with attention to accuracy, coordination, and detail.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit experience is strongly preferred.
- SketchUp, Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite, or other visualization skills are a plus.
- Working knowledge of residential construction, materials, assemblies, and detailing.
- Ability to interpret consultant information and incorporate it into coordinated architectural drawings.
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Highly organized, responsive, and able to move several projects forward at once.
- Comfortable receiving direction while also taking ownership of assigned work.
- Architectural registration is not required; candidates pursuing licensure are encouraged to apply.
Why Join PSA
- Work directly with the principal and experienced architects rather than being buried inside a large production team.

- Work on design-focused residential projects where materials, detailing, historic context, and interiors matter.
- Join a women-owned practice with a strong LGBTQ+ presence and a culture that values individuality, respect, and different perspectives.
- Have a visible impact on how the office works as we continue improving our digital tools, project systems, and design workflows.
- Build a career in the Berkshires with access to an unusually rich design, arts, cultural, and natural environment.
