Health Educator
Full-Time
Location: Purchase District Health Department Service Area
Schedule: Monday – Friday
Pay Range: $18.07/hr – $26.86/hr + 5% increase after 6 months
Position Overview
The Health Educator supports the Purchase District Health Department’s mission by promoting healthy behaviors, preventing disease, and improving community health outcomes through education, outreach, and program development. This role assists in identifying community health needs, planning and implementing health education initiatives, and connecting individuals and groups with resources that support healthier lifestyles.
This position is ideal for an individual who is passionate about public health, community engagement, and empowering others through education and prevention efforts.
Primary ResponsibilitiesHealth Education & Outreach
Deliver health education programs to individuals, families, schools, workplaces, and community groups
Promote positive health behaviors and strategies to reduce health risk factors
Develop and distribute educational materials that support public health initiatives
Participate in outreach activities, community events, and health promotion campaigns
Program Planning & Implementation
Assist in identifying community health needs through data collection and community engagement
Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health education programs
Support local health improvement efforts and public health initiatives
Contribute to program goals by helping develop strategies that address identified community health concerns
Community Engagement
Build and maintain relationships with community partners, organizations, and stakeholders
Represent the Health Department at meetings, events, and public forums as assigned
Assist with community assessments and initiatives aimed at improving population health
Promote awareness of available public health services and resources
Documentation & Professional Development
Maintain accurate and timely records of services, activities, and program outcomes
Protect client confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy requirements
Participate in program evaluation and quality improvement activities
Develop and implement a plan for continued professional growth and development
Minimum QualificationsPosition Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
No prior experience required
Strong communication and presentation skills
Ability to effectively engage diverse populations and community groups
Knowledge of health promotion, disease prevention, and public health principles
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other standard business applications
Pay & Schedule
$18.07 – $26.86/hour based on qualifications and experience
5% wage increase after 6 months
Full-time, Monday through Friday schedule
6-month initial probationary period
Non-exempt position eligible for state benefits, retirement, and structured pay increases
Additional Requirements
Completion of required annual trainings and certifications
May be required to pass background check and drug screening
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for community outreach and travel throughout the district
