Construction, Design and Management (CDM) is a commercial construction company based in Brewerton, New York, serving clients throughout Central New York. We deliver quality commercial construction projects built on craftsmanship, accountability, and long-standing client relationships. We're looking for a detail-oriented Accountant to join our team and keep our financial operations running as smoothly as our job sites.
Position Summary
The Accountant will manage day-to-day accounting operations for the company, with an emphasis on construction-specific functions such as job costing, AIA progress billing, and project financial reporting. This role works closely with ownership and project management staff and is a great fit for an accountant with a few years of experience who wants broad responsibility and direct impact in a growing company.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including subcontractor and vendor invoices
- Prepare and submit AIA-style progress billings (G702/G703) and track retainage
- Maintain job cost records; track budgets, committed costs, and change orders by project
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations and assist with month-end close
- Prepare work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reports
- Process weekly payroll and certified payroll reports for prevailing wage projects
- Track subcontractor insurance certificates, lien waivers, and W-9/1099 compliance
- Assist with quarterly sales and payroll tax filings and support year-end review by outside CPA
- Support cash-flow forecasting and general office administration as needed
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3–5 years of accounting experience; construction industry experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of job costing and percentage-of-completion concepts a plus
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage 100 Contractor, Foundation, or similar) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines
- Trustworthy, self-directed, and comfortable working in a small-office environment
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $62,000 – $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience
