GENERAL MAINTENANCE / GLAZIER â 261 DAYS
Position Title: General Maintenance / Glazier
Employment Term: 261 Days
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Supervisor of Maintenance and/or Director of Maintenance
Salary: In accordance with the Boone County Schools salary schedule and applicable state law.
POSITION SUMMARY
The General Maintenance / Glazier performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and renovation work throughout Boone County Schools facilities. The employee is responsible for the installation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of glass, windows, doors, frames, and related materials, while also providing general maintenance support for school buildings and facilities.
The position requires the ability to respond to routine maintenance needs as well as emergency situations involving broken glass, damaged windows, doors, building security, and other facility concerns. Work shall be completed in a safe, efficient, and professional manner to maintain school facilities in a condition that supports a safe and effective educational environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The employee shall:

Install, replace, repair, and maintain glass in windows, doors, display cases, partitions, and other building components.

Measure, cut, fit, remove, and install various types and sizes of glass and glazing materials.

Maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly used glass, glazing materials, hardware, and maintenance supplies as directed.

Assist in estimating materials and supplies needed for assigned projects.
-
Complete work orders and maintain appropriate records of work performed.
-
Travel to schools and other Boone County Schools facilities as assigned.
-
Install and repair window systems, frames, glazing compounds, sealants, weather stripping, and related materials.
-
Safely remove and dispose of broken or damaged glass.
-
Respond promptly to broken windows, doors, and other conditions that may create a safety or security concern.
-
Inspect windows, doors, frames, and related hardware and make necessary repairs.
-
Repair and replace door hardware, hinges, closers, locks, handles, and related components as assigned.
-
Perform general building maintenance and repairs involving walls, ceilings, flooring, doors, windows, cabinetry, and other facility components.
-
Perform minor carpentry, masonry, painting, caulking, patching, and other general maintenance work.
-
Assist with preventative maintenance activities throughout district facilities.

Assist other maintenance employees in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, roofing, grounds, and other maintenance projects when needed and when appropriately qualified.

Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.

Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
-
Respond to emergency maintenance situations when requested.

Follow all applicable safety procedures, including requirements related to personal protective equipment, ladder safety, lift operation, glass handling, and hazardous materials.

Follow applicable federal, state, county, and Boone County Board of Education policies and procedures.

Maintain appropriate conduct while working in schools and around students, employees, and the public.

Cooperate with school administrators and staff to minimize disruption to instructional activities while completing maintenance work.

Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance, Superintendent, or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant shall:

The employee should possess:

Knowledge of glazing methods, materials, tools, and safety practices.

Knowledge of general building construction and maintenance practices.

Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.

Ability to accurately use measuring devices and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to prioritize work assignments and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, administrators, employees, contractors, and vendors.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to work in occupied school buildings while maintaining appropriate safety precautions.

Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements necessary for maintenance and glazing work, including:

Frequently standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, and climbing.

Working from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and elevated locations.
-
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tools, equipment, glass, building materials, and other objects.
-
Handling glass and other materials requiring careful positioning and physical control.
-
Performing work requiring manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
-
Working both indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
-
Working in confined spaces or other areas associated with building maintenance when necessary.

Using required personal protective equipment.

Performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee may be exposed to broken glass, sharp materials, dust, noise, chemicals, construction materials, moving equipment, heights, temperature extremes, and other conditions commonly associated with maintenance and construction work. Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment shall be utilized at all times.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
261-day employment term. Salary, benefits, work schedule, and other conditions of employment shall be established in accordance with applicable West Virginia law, Boone County Board of Education policy, and the Boone County Schools salary schedule.
EVALUATION
Performance of this position shall be evaluated in accordance with West Virginia law, West Virginia Department of Education requirements, and Boone County Board of Education policy and procedures.
