Refrigeration & Utilities Maintenance Manager
Overview
A newly constructed food manufacturing facility is seeking an experienced Senior Refrigeration/Ammonia and Utilities Manager to help launch operations at a greenfield site. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build and shape a new facility's utility infrastructure and team. Relocation assistance is available.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operation, upkeep, and reliability of facility utility systems, including ammonia refrigeration under Process Safety Management (PSM), compressed air, boilers, steam, wastewater treatment, and environmental controls
- Supervise and mentor a team of leads, technicians, and operators to hit production, safety, and cost targets, while building a collaborative culture of continuous improvement
- Maintain full compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA, PSM, LOTO), ensuring a safe working environment at all times
- Guide installation projects and preventive maintenance programs for refrigeration and utility assets to maximize uptime, efficiency, and output quality
- Identify and lead capital planning, cost-saving, and process improvement projects across utilities and refrigeration functions
- Deliver regular, accurate updates on safety, cost, and production metrics, and support Lean and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, plus 10+ years in utilities or maintenance management
- Demonstrated people-leadership background, including cross-functional collaboration with corporate stakeholders; CMRP, Six Sigma, or Lean credentials a plus
- Solid working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, PSM compliance, electrical systems, and hydraulics
- Food manufacturing background preferred, along with familiarity with USDA/FDA regulatory requirements
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary range of $130,000-$150,000 annually, plus eligibility for a 20% performance-based incentive bonus. Actual offer depends on factors such as experience, education, certifications, and location.
